There's nothing EB's wife could do to me that's worse than a DUI in NY.

What's the word on this in more rural areas? I can totally understand the Chippewa scene in d/t Buffalo being doable and profitable. But where I live...?

A few years back, before Uber stared to hit, buddies and I went to Salamanca Casino. We stayed at a nearby ski resort town, I forget the name. When my buddy called to see about taxis he was told the market was tight and the lady said if someone wanted to run a taxi service they would make a fortune.

That is hearsay to the second degree so take it for what it is worth, your mileage may vary.

Everybody is different. When I had a passenger,
I never exceeded the speed limit. Yet people
told me all the time to slow down. Just as many
told me to go faster. They said I followed people
too closely when I wasn't. They said I was running

scream for me to go even though it was a red
light. They urged me to pass people when it
was a no passing zone. They wanted me to try
and beat the train so they wouldn't have to sit
there. They encouraged me to do U turns, which
are illegal everywhere.

In general, people who get rides and seldom to never drive,
which is 95% of cab and Uber customers, have no idea what
real good or bad driving is. I got one ticket as a cab driver,
for speeding on the freeway while delivering a kidney
to the U of M medical facility.

Holy cow, Uber is coming to Vegas. The state
passed a law that share companies can pick
up hailed fares in NV, so that means they
can sit in cab stands with regular cabs.

It's already hard to make living in Vegas
because there are too many cabs, so now
there will be hundreds more all going for
the same business. I wonder what a guy
who's been driving 12 hour shifts for 10
years will do when he see's cab stand full
of non taxi cars.

Last year I took a cab from the car rental to
DT and the lady driver said I was her 2nd
fare in 8 hours of driving, on a 12 hour shift.
This was in May, a busy month. She told me
cab driving in Vegas gets worse every year
because they keep adding more and more
cabs, there are 6 companies now. Some days
she makes just enough to pay her op's and
makes nothing for herself.

Onto this scene come Uber and Lyft. Won't
they be popular targets.

Sounds like a good excuse for speeding if I ever heard one.

Maybe this is going off on a tangent, but let's say you want to take a cab from the Mirage to the Wynn. These two casino are very close to each other. Front door to front door is a half mile tops. Of course most people would walk it but you're lazy.

Now let's say there is a huge line of taxis at the Mirage and you know they are all hoping for a nice long ride. If you grab a cab you totally screw the driver you get because he waited a long time for a half mile fare. However, every other cab behind him benefits because they moved up one position. In other words, you do a good thing for all cab drivers as a whole, but screw one particular one.

The question is, should you feel good about yourself for supporting the cab business in general, or bad because your driver got screwed on a short ride.

A cab driver understands how the business
works. It's totally random, it all works out
in the end. I would tell all new drivers to
never look at how much they make on
a daily basis, or a weekly basis, but do
it once a month. It's freakishly uncanny
that you'll make the same amount every
month, give or take, depending on the
season.

The super good fares always more than make
up for the super bad ones. As we know, that's
how random works. Uber and Lyft will throw
a giant monkey wrench into the business,
it won't be a pretty picture. How will that work
if they can pick up hailed fares. The person who
gets in will have to have the app and call after
they get in. What a pain that will be. There is
so much room for cheating, the driver will say
don't call and I'll take you for a cheaper price
and cut Uber out of it's commission.

When I am in that spot where the driver gets a short trip from me after a long wait in the cab line I always provide a large tip usually about the same or even sometimes more than the fare.

I tried to cab it for a super short ride, 3 blocks to the Hampton Inn
Cab driver said no
pointed me to the hotel bustop I didn't feel like waiting for.
I waited for the Bus
