It's Christmas? Thanks for the heads up. Summer
sausage and cheese and mulled wine while
watching A Christmas Carol. Putting a lump of
coal in everyone's stocking.

A pure concoction, an utterly non-existent holiday.

What makes one holiday a "pure concoction" versus another - is it the amount of time that has passed since it was "concocted"…?

(discussions of the origins of holidays should probably be moved so as not to trample on the padre's feel-good thread)

Well, people celebrated Christmas for hundreds of years and now thousands. Kwanzaa was invented as a holiday before anybody celebrated it.

In other news, just got home from tonight's gathering. As a kid this was the best night of the year by far bar none. This year and so many recently have seemed more like just another way to mark time passing. I must be getting old.
