Actually the story about the coming down the chimney came from the fact that St. Nicholas once to help a poor family threw some coins into their home through an open window.

Did he have short, jolly Nubian slaves garbed as clowns? I believe he is generally depicted that way in Norway.

I thought Bill Maher was a Jew, but he's a
recovering Catholic. In his movie Religulous,
he makes the same point I do. The two
pivotal things in Christianity is the virgin
birth and the resurrection. Yet the VB is
never even mentioned in Mark. That is
beyond weird. Maher goes into great detail
how the entire VB scenario, all of it, all
the details, is stolen from the Egyptian version.
As Nareed has pointed out. It's so obvious
that it's a complete ripoff that it's not even
debatable.

Jesus - people wrote stuff down
Buddha - same
Mohammed - same
Hindu - not sure, but I suspect much the same as above.

All men.

God or the divine gave women little to say. Or it's manifestation of male narcissism.

Yup, which is more likely.

edit - L Ron H. another man.
Guru Nanak Sikhism - again a man.

All religions are. Jewish, Hindu, Islam, Xtion. It's
only in the most liberal Xtion churches that
women can be ordained ministers and priests.
Mary is promoted to a high rank, but not her
followers.

I heard on TV the other day that in the Catholic
church they found in surveys that Jesus is number
four on the list of who gets prayed to. Mary is
number one, god is two, I forget who three was.
Poor Jesus, still hanging on millions of crosses
and gets no respect.

Although I do note some religions make women or forms of women into gods, but they get very little in dispensing wisdom in words like numerous men.

It can get worse than that.

Suppose a god were tricked by his brother and then murdered. Now suppose his wife, a goddess, spends years looking for his body. eventually she finds him and brings him back home. the brother then hacks the god to pieces. the wife finds the pieces, puts them together and resurrects her husband.

That's a brief recap of the story of Osiris and Ist (Isis). So does Ist get to rule in the underworld? No. Osiris, the one who fell for the trick and got himself killed, rules over the realms of the afterlife.

Now, the odd thing is that Egyptian women were better off than most women in the ancient world. They could own property, they could get divorced, they could serve as priestesses in the temples.

It wasn't even close, Mary won by a landslide.
Yet there is no 'cult of Mary'. (wink wink)

Everyone knows Mary is not divine so no one prays to her per se, but if you mean, 'do many Catholics feel comfortable asking for the intercession of Mary?' then yes they do. When you desire something from your father, who might you turn to for help first?

Bulloney! Gotcha! I've asked two Catholics so
far if Mary is divine and that's why they pray
TO her and they both said 'of course'.

YOU know she's not divine, but you sure
don't drill that into the heads of the flock.
That's why she's number 1 on the prayer
list, duh..
