I've never known anybody to claim to be asexual in real life, so can't speak out this with any personal experience. However, I will offer that my opinion is that if asexuality were an option that it wouldn't be correlated to handsomeness or physical fitness, much like homo- and heterosexuality isn't.

Kinsey labelled 1.5% of the male population as having no sexual attraction. Unlike homosexuality, there is almost no research in accepted norms. Priests or others who have normal sexual urges but abstain for religious reasons are not considered asexual (see TV series Jane the virgin).

Also, I could make an argument that Sheldon leans towards being heterosexual. Besides the relationship with Amy there was the time he was helping Penny put on a shirt with his eyes closed and he grabbed hold of her breast and just held onto it.

He seemed more perplexed than anything. It's interesting that Jim Parsons has always been known to be homosexual in real life. But fans tend to picture fantasy involvements between Sheldon and Penny (more than Galecki who was always attracted to her in the show, and also in real life).
