Hehe, so he walked the 10k. How much would the cab have been?

I think he walked more than that. The cab would surely have cost less than his time. Though at least this was before taking up to 20 minutes to go two blocks in traffic was common.

Well, even if he drove the one car to the destination and then walked back to get the other one, he wouldn't really be walking more (just walking it all at once).

Perhaps security issues come into play, as you don't really want the car out of visual range for two hours.

I believe taxis in Mexico city are MXN$6.40 initially than MXN$8 per kilometer unless you fall slower than 20 km/hr where conversion is MSN$14.5=US$1. If you don't want to hail a cab on the street because of safety concerns, then the rates are 2MXN$20 initially and about the same per kilometer.

Taxi fares are low enough that many USA retirees don't own cars, preferring to let other people drive.

This was sometime in the 70s. Taxi meters were seen only in American movies and TV shows. Traffic was bad, but not that bad. Cabs were safe, albeit rather expensive. Apparently parking was easy, as he consistently found a spot every two blocks.

I've negotiated my vacation so I'll now arrive in Vegas May 3rd and leave the 21st. So either the 15th or 17th is still fine.

I'll probably book my trip this week. I've seen rates to die for.

I'm thinking of doing the 50-mile ride from the M casino to Primm and back. This would be a little over 50 miles, I think 55. I realize this won't be very convenient for anybody wishing to participate but it is important to me to keep the ride flat with as few street crossings as possible. From what I hear and know, this route will be quite flat and with only one possible stop sign in Jean, that I would probably blow through.

Anybody will be welcome to be present at the M, Gold Strike in Jean, or Buffalo Bills in Primm, where I'll probably grab some quick grub. Bicyclists are also welcome to ride along as long as the rider can keep up with a 10 MPH pace. There are shuttles that go from various points on the Strip to the shopping center in Primm.

This is not official by any means. Later this week I may attempt to go from the M to Jean and back to test it out.

Make sure someone is designated to ride with a full pack of support equipment (food medication and blankets). You still run the risk of blinding pain somewhere after 40 miles. If you have something reasonable to lie down on and food drinks and bandages you can fight off the most sever effects, you can make it in eight hours.

I remember Ace saying the thought of eating another power bar after hour 8 made him retch. He needed sugar, and warm soup broth.

If you do this around the time of the WoVCon, transportation won't be a problem.

Thanks, mom. I think worst case scenario is I give up and have to hitch a ride to the M. If that doesn't work, I'll have my cell with me. I won't push it to the point of blinding pain.

You should carry your Glock in case
the rider breaks his leg and you have
to put him out of his misery.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.
