Hey Nareed, has there ever been a plot line where Earth launches some extended journey, and a 100 years into it, another launch catches up with the first flight, because they have advanced space travel? Could be an interesting story line.

Babylon 5, Season 2, "The Long Dark." http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/countries/us/guide/027.html

It's not about that exactly, but the slow ship designed to home-in to radio signals, and launched at least a century earlier from Earth, finds a human-built, working space station.

Larry Niven's "Known Space" timeline has superluminal travel developed well after interstellar colonies, and interstellar wars, are firmly established. But some lost and/or forgotten sub-luminal ships occasionally are used as plot devices.

It was created by the Shadows. They'll arrive here in 2257

I would say it sounds like fun, but I doubt it will be.

36 feet diameter dome.

Quote:
Six recruits have began the Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation (HI-SEAS) mission. They will live in the dome, located on barren land in Hawaii, for the next 12 months. Previous HI-SEAS missions have lasted four months and eight months respectively.

The Nasa-funded project will allow the organization to plan for a human mission to the Red Planet, which is expected to take between one and three years.

The team will have to survive without fresh air and fresh food. Their diet will include powdered cheese and canned tuna and they will only have a small sleeping cot and desk inside their room.

By giving the team very little privacy, the isolation experiment is aimed at better understanding the social and psychological effects of travelling in space for great lengths of time

Even a minor infection on a space flight like that could be a problem. Be a lousy time to get appendicitis.

NASA has announced that some mystery is solved and they will say what it is tomorrow.

I do not like if they pretend something is big enough to preannounce it, and it's not really big enough.

So, I guess we will see.
