My first thought was, for a house built in
1830, that big, you need a staff of
handymen to keep ahead of what
goes wrong every week. Just plumbing
and electric would be a nightmare, roof
and foundation and basement next.

That's about twice as much as the most expensive home for sale in USA (in LA)

Hard to beat the views from the windows and balconies though.

As far as upkeep. I'd assume they did hidden work, modern wiring and so forth and things you can't see.. When you have that kind of wealth, it's just a pittance investment.

We had a conference at the Villa Marigola in Italy. One of the best places to hold a conference.

I didn't see one of views out the windows in the piece I linked, but found one here.

The home’s old-fashioned interiors will likely be gutted and redone by a new owner—that’s not what they’re paying a premium for.

You are only paying $400 million and you are still getting a fixer upper.

Wouldn't it be crazy not to have modern wiring? Are they only using oil lamps and candles? Even sprinklers might be in order.

And if I had owned it for decades I'd have people in to fix any rotting timber, termite control. They kept the inside pristine -- seems a waste to ignore other upkeep.

What is a candy wall?

Meanwhile, news from the tiny home world:

Luxury tiny home (three stories) fits in London parking space.

Scandinavian tiny home goes up in one day and is made solely of cardboard.

If we can run all cars on batteries we shouldn't need any house wiring soon. Everything will be battery powered.
