Paris was so densely populated, yet one more reason to never go there.
I have never needed another reason :-)

I finally got to Paris last year and spent 5 days there. It was fantastic, did not feel crowded, just like a city. New York and London both move faster and feel busier. I didn't get to see 1/10th of what I would have liked to, but spent about 7 hours on all-you-can-ride buses looping all through the different quarters, getting on and off wherever something interested me. It was a good way to see what to spend more time on. The hotels, restaurants, shopkeepers could not have been more pleasant. I was braced for being snooted, given their reputation, and it wasn't like that at all. In short, it's worth your time; there are things there that can't be experienced anywhere else.
Never doubt a small group of concerned citizens can change the world; it's the only thing ever has

I live in such a place, all the houses are like 100 years old. Eventually they are too much to fix, so I can see someone buying a few and starting over.

Where I live, they're already tearing down the
brick ranch homes from the 50's and replacing
them with 5 bedroom monstrosities. I like the
older ranch homes, but they are harder to
heat and cool than a modern one. And the
layout is better in a two story.

Perfect example. They kind of remind me of
a double wide mobile home made out of
brick:

If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

No wonder I feel so comfortable in mine =)

Hey, you can get them real cheap in a lot
of places and they're generally very nice
homes with full basements. Some people
finish off the entire basement with bedrooms
and a TV room, so it really is a two story.

If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

A friend of mine said that the citizens of Paris live in the most beautiful city on the earth, and they are entitled to be snooty.

For those of you without the big budget, but want to see beautiful old buildings, see some great artwork, partake in a lively nightlife of clubs and fine dining, and only want to be on a plane for a few hours, I do recommend Guadalajara MX. Volaris flies there nonstop to 11 USA cities, and 3 border towns.

Volaris is the Mexican wanna be Southwest airlines.

If you go into Buffalo they did the opposite. There are a few blocks where they tore down all the 1900 homes and put up new ones that look about 1/3 the size. They are 1950 sized places but right in the background are the skyscrapers just blocks away. It is really weird feeling because the houses are 100 years newer than what is just a block away. New ones have a driveway and little yard while the old ones are old-school built right to the street.

Welp, Paris was overpopulated, that is true, but not much more than any other bigger European capital. I believe that NYC was the worst I've seen, regarding overpopulation. I can't say that Paris was cheap, but New York was far more expensive, especially regarding restaurants, hotels and public transportation.

I don't 'get' NYC. The few times I've been there,
I can't wait to leave. Too much traffic and way
too many unfriendly faces in the crowds. It seems
everybody has a heavy foreign accent and I never
know what they're saying. People go on and on
about about how great the city is, I think that's BS.
It stinks and they want to give the impression it
doesn't.
