I grew up in a house where my mother smoked and my dad occasionally smoked cigars/pipes My mom quit years ago but my dad still smokes the occasional cigar (although only when playing a slot machine) I have never smoked in my life and have always detested it. But, for a week or two after I have these vivid dreams, I constantly crave having a cigarette/cigar - anyone experience anything like this? it is very strange. |

Could also be the time of year. Last week or so been dreaming of work, unusual because nothing is stressful there lately. Attributing it to extra daylight not letting me sleep deep long enough. Or not, I really don't sleep well and haven't forever. The President is a fink. |

You hate it and know it's bad, so my guess it's like the people who have the urge to jump when they're in high places. Research that on Google for 5min and you'll probably get your answer. It has to do with self destructive behavior, is my guess. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I did research it Bob - there are tons of forums discussing weird cravings to smoke by non-smokers A few even had vivid dreams of enjoying a cigarette and waking up craving it |

So it has to be psychological thing, a self destructive inclination. I have dreams where I'm smoking and I'm very disappointed in myself. But I was a smoker 35 years ago and haven't had one since. Your parents smoked, you might have been unconsciously worried about their behavior and hoped you never picked it up. So now you're having self destructive dreams. We all have those all the time. One of mine is driving a speeding car down a mountain with no brakes. Or being on a sinking oil platform in the middle of the ocean. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Avoiding smoking is something you consciously choose to do. You have years of knowledge from watching your parents that make you 100% certain that you don't want it. There is something in your life that is similar. It's not "the same", but psychologically there's a connection. It's something you're either currently doing, contemplating doing, or worried about doing. In your mind, you know it's a negative thing, but there's a temptation there. Your brain is trying to cope with it through your dreams. I don't know you well enough to make but one guess - could it be your Vegas ass whooping? Through your posts, you exhibited unhealthy, self destructive, and self loathing behavior, what with the "punishments" you inflicted upon yourself for losing. And you jumped right back on the horse as soon as you got home. Look inside and see if a part of you didn't question yourself about your actions these past few weeks. If there's any conflict present there, said conflict likely manifested itself into your smoking dream. Your brain just substituted a known negative, smoking, in place of the questionable actions you partook in. It's telling you "this is bad". Just a guess. If I'm wrong but you're interested, supply more info =) Be bold and risk defeat, or be cautious and encourage it. |
