What did I miss? I do not see anything about why you think it would be bad.

You still do not say what is so bad about being a territory.

So I thought it odd, on my first comment, that I "still" did not say anything about what is so bad about it being a territory, since I hadn't said anything at all about it being a territory or not.

That is not logic, that is silly. CA was small when it became a state and you would compare state size to the average at admission, not to the largest now. Do you understand the concept here?

You're the one moving the bar, now that your logic is silly. You said population alone was enough not to make it a state using it as a comparison to a larger state.

I have heard MT is beautiful but described as "poverty with a view."

My wife's parents lived there for
40 years. He was a minister and
they lived in a tiny house as big
as a 3 stall garage, in a town
that was dirt poor. No industry
besides cattle and tourists in
the summer. Gotta love to drink
because that's all there is to do
9 months of the year. Better
take a woman with you cause
all the good ones are snagged
in HS. Single women in MT
are an unproven myth.

The guy I mentioned who was there
for 5 years never had a date the
first 2 years, nobody to date. He
came back to MI for 2 weeks,
dated his ex GF, married her and
took her to MT. 2 years later she
left him and MT, kicking and
screaming to get out. She said
winter there is like prison.

No, I compared the population to even the smallest states. Then add in other items. A state it would not fit as. Territory yes.

Buy it. Make it a territory. Find two big duded and call them "The Wild Vikings" for pro wrestling.

Funny how that happens with women there. Sometimes microtown women approach outside guys because they both are different and might get them out of there.

Saw a "worst towns in Montana" once and for some reason I want to hit the poker room in the small casino there. Want to drive cross country in a convertible top down all the way and that would be a stop.

Montana is one of the most beautiful scenic states I been in. But I tried 5 different times to make a living there and couldn't do it. It was actually easier to make money in Alaska which is more remote.

The western side with the Bitteroot's and Sawtooth mountains and Salmon river country are amazing. Every kind of game animals are so thick, it is dangerous to drive at night without a cattle guard on your truck. When I was there mostly in the 80's, in the western side and central, and even down toward Yellowstone, every running water had trout in it. But the big problem was the whole state is divided into mega ranch's or reservations, and unless you are born there, it's near impossible to gain access.

Spend a few days, it's no problem finding minerals or gems, or maybe getting on as a hand on some ranch. But it snows in every single month of the year in Montana. My dad saw it snow 6 inches on July 4th, I saw the same thing on Aug. 8th. In Alaska, when the sun comes up during the 24 hour light period, although it can range in the 40 + degree temps at night, it goes above freezing by late June, and for a couple months it doesn't freeze. Montana with that Canadian weather coming on them and the elevations, it gets cold in the summer. It doesn't stay cold, but frost is no surprise on any day. Beautiful place. my .02
.
Oh, and the girls? I worked dead center of Montana in Harloton. There were some of those Menonite type reserves around there, funny how many different cultures there are just in our country, top to bottom and side to side. Never seen anybody so red neck racist as the bible belt. But the girls in remote Montana ranch country at that time, thought a guy that had a hundred dollar bill on payday, was somebody. Cheap places to drink, buy the house a round for 20 bucks, and don't have to sleep alone that night. Also as was pointed out to me, "if you don't want to fight, don't look like you do". That held true more than once. Good Evil Knieivel country.

Sounds like opening up a few bars and hiring a few girls would have been a good idea. Montana traces much of its real estate holdings back to English grants by the Crown.
