It's cold here. 9:13 p.m. @ 58 *. Most of the homes where we live are constructed on concrete slabs, as is ours. Our floor is 77* still from this summer/fall. Tricky home to heat with 90's technology. It has ducted ceiling heat, and I can never get the thermostat right. The hallway where the thermostat lives, also the vent return for the ductwork, thinks it's 88* in here, so I have the door open about a foot to the patio. I started this year bringing in two of the little 110v heaters, really wasteful if that's how you heat your house in most of the country, but we only need small parts of this two big if a house anything different than what it wants to be, which is around 77*,

Was by the pool on Christmas. On New Year’s I may be shoveling snow…. It has been perfect golf weather virtually all December here in The Villages.

Yeah, those hungry gators strategically located on Fla. golf courses really are a "hazard."

Savvy golfers throw them a live chicken and then play through.

A beautiful 81F here today and sunny. Actually swam in the pool today.

You know what they say, you'll never forget your first summer in Florida because you think you're going to die. A friend of mine had to move to Florida for 2 years because his job forced him to, he said it was like being in prison in the summer. He could do nothing outdoors. Some people I know do everything they need to do outside before 7 a.m. In the summer because after about 8 a.m. the humidity is so oppressive they sweat through their clothes immediately. But you'll be on your couch watching TV so you'll never even notice. I have some friends went to Louisiana after Katrina to help out with the stray animal problem after the hurricane. They lasted exactly a day and a half before they came home because the humidity made them physically sick. But hey, no snow in the winter. No snow either here so far and it's almost January 1st
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Got a text this morning from Kodiak AK. It was 48* and they were headed to town to do shopping because there was no ice on the roads.

That's not at all unusual for Kodiak, located as it is on the ocean and subject to maritime warming.

The usual temp range there in December is a low of 29 and a high of 37.

She just sent me another text, and said it's blowing steady from 35-40, gusting to 75.

Kodiak is an ice factory, in the 1800's they used to send ice to San Francisco!
