You were inconsistent. You used it correctly the second time. I think it is “proper” to say 4,500 million, as it contrasts with 1 million or 10 million. I find that many people have a huge problem with time scale. I was recently in a conversation about Berengia and the other person mentioned Gondwana. I said Berengia was 10,000 years ago when physically and behaviorally modern human beings could still walk from Russia to Alaska, while Gondwana was 180,000,000 years ago when the continents were all together. While Berengia had a huge impact on human populations, Gondwana greatly predates "gorillas, orangutans , chimpanzees, humans and bonobos" by an order of magnitude. A "behaviorally modern human" couldn't necessarily read and write or even parse language the way we do, but they could make tools, physical decorations like beads and paintings, build buildings, develop ritual and form tribal groups. There seems to be a physical shift roughly 125,000 years ago to physically modern humans, but another shift probably 50,000 years ago in behavior. It is unclear how sudden this sift was. |

They're told to freak out. If they weren't told, it would just be like the regular old weather. I've lived in this area since the 50's and notice no difference in the weather. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
