I think FrG is like Scot, the "Fighting Young Priest" of 70's Doonesbury, and in his early 30's. Kind of a rock star in his parish, I bet. Buff and a great smile, lots of energy. It's when he gets exasperated. He still has that fire. The fire that only comes with youth. Most older priests have a flock to tend, with a lot of lives they feel responsible for. Of the ones I know, I don't sense any disillusionment. A lot of overwork, mostly. It used to be several priests per parish, now most have one priest plus a lay deacon. |
