Caviar or Salted Peanuts??

Where should networks look to for salvation... I mean if they were looking to Bill Cosby and his troubled history they must be desperate.

Yet look to PBS which has all these British hits. Masterpiece classic, Masterpiece contemporary, etc. Even Canada's Little Mosque on the Prarie seems innovative.

Yet the networks look to well these two nerds and a blonde live in a building with no elevator.

Network TV is dead.
Their time has passed. Its over.
There is no resurrection. There is no salvation.
The market has evolved to niche networks with niche shows for niche audience.
The days of a hit show everybody watches are over.
I hardly watch any network TV unless its sports or the Olympics.

You may well be correct. In the fifties people watched "TV" ... now you can watch vampires, monsters, monster trucks, animals, animated, inner city, outer city, classic, fifties, sixties, 1820, 1944.... endless.

It does seem like NFL should just buy one of the networks rather than have a contract with four networks

Hour long dramas are at least staying on the air.

NBC Drama
The Blacklist
Law & Order: SVU
Chicago P.D.
Chicago Fire
Grimm (Friday nights)

CBS Drama
NCIS
NCIS: Los Angeles
NCIS: New Orleans
CSI
The Good Wife
Madam Secretary
Person Of Interest
Stalker
Criminal Minds
Scorpion
Blue Bloods (Friday night)

ABC Drama
Scandal
How To Get Away With Murder
Grey's Anatomy
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Castle
Once Upon A Time
Nashville
Resurrection

So NBC needed Bill Cosby much worse than he needs them.

Tina Fey's sitcom jumps off NBC bandwagon

Besides Bill Cosby's show, Tina Fey's new show was the other tentpole for NBC sitcoms. She has jumped to Netflix.

Craig Robinson is going to get an NBC sitcom and try and break the streak.

What a coup for Netflix. The shows premise
sounds pretty dumb, but who knows. How
many stories can they get out of "a woman
who escapes from a doomsday cult and starts
life over in New York." It has no legs.

First, shows about women are tough. 30 Rock
was more about the Baldwin character then
Fey's. He was far more interesting, she was
just a basket case. Who knows.

Ditto here and it is only going to get worse. Between podcasting, YouTube, and Roku channels almost anyone an be a producer, director, or personality. 50-100K viewers makes you viable. Instead of Proctor & Gamble sponsoring a broad-based show with a broad-based product ad you get niche shows watched by viewers with narrowly defined but strong interest in the show which means a guy working out of his house can advertise his niche product for said niche audience. He may do just over six figures out of it all, but that is a decent living.

So what you have on one end is at the networks are shows with viewer levels that once would get a cancellation are now considered hits. Meanwhile numbers that once would not get you on a UHF channel if you gave it to them free are making a whole bunch of people a living.

Just a matter of time before a network dies. I think it will be one of ABC, CBS, or NBC as FOX will IMHO innovate.

A recent youtube entry was a young German girl fixing up a boat and sailing it around the tropics.

Show delivers: travelers, yachters, do it yourselfers, youth market, retired market, arm chair danger market, and simply those who like looking at a pretty girl in a bikini.

Profitable after a few weeks but no one will retire on that mone.

Bethany Mota who turned 19 two weeks ago is making half a million dollars a month with her youtube videos where she is being paid by chains like Fprever 21.

In the future advertisers will pay for a certain number of viewers who meet some kind of demographic and financial profile. Instead of an advertisement on Big Bang Theory there will be dozens of outlets who will deliver a certain percentage of the population.

They just have to perfect the art of inserting commercials tailored to your profile. They can put them on youtube, television, vudu, hulu, or anything else you are tuned into.

The idea of counting households for ratings is almost dead anyway. People will sell their private information for a chance to win contests, and it will allow narrowcasting for advertisers (black lesbians who are republicans between the ages of 17 and 24).

Very cute girl with a huge personality and
an expiration date. A few more years and
she'll be yesterdays news like all young
stars are. I bet she's smart enough to have
moved into something lasting by then, though.
