Original Sin?

I had heard the phrase before, "the cult of Mary" but never looked at it closely.

Last night there was a documentary on it, so because of seeing it here, I watched it.

The show said one of the things joiners had to do was give up everything they own. Not surprised.

Interesting about the cia agent who got stuck there for awhile and spent the rest of his life trying to get his daughter out.

Original Sin is hard to explain the how but extremely easy to see the why.

It is beyond doubt that Original Sin is the most clearly evidenced reality of the faith. Human beings struggle to do what is right. We know what we should do and what we shouldn't and yet we still do what we don't want to and don't do the things we want to. This is a universal truth, you know it, I know it, and Original Sin is the theological concept to explain it. We are made good and destined to greatness but we and by extension our society is broken and sick. We feel the echo of our goodness and the call to what is right and beautiful but something in us fights against this and tempts us another way.

It always comes back to Paul, doesn't it. He's
the creator of Christianity, not Jesus. He made
the whole thing up, as more and more forensic
scholars are finding out. Original sin is a cruel
hoax, invented by Paul to control the ignorant.

Why do you say this? Original sin is a reality of who we are. In naming this phenomenon of all human beings we can understand ourselves better and work to be who we truly are in the core of our being - good and wonderful!

No, it's the reality of who Paul wanted you
to be. For whatever reason you've totally
bought into it and made it your reality
also. You and many others. It makes sense
to you, it gives the world a purpose, and
yourself a place in it, which you obviously
need. Take it away and many Christians
lives would fall apart, they would be lost.

Atheists get along fine without such an
extreme and defined purpose. We live
within the law and have our own strict
moral codes, we don't need to invent a
god to constantly look over our shoulder
to make sure we behave. So what if
Paul made it all up, it's a nice story and
it certainly controls people well. Be
thankful to Paul or you wouldn't have
a job.
