I just meant that every story of a given genre has certain archetype characters. It's like they said in Cabin in the Woods that at least 5 must be punished for their foolishness and youth. There is always an athlete, a whore, a scholar, a fool, and a virgin.

A story involving teenage boys has to have a bully, an athletic hero, and a nerdy scholar.

I wanted to be all three when I was a
kid. I settled for being a smart ass
instead.

I see Django made it to Netflix. I won't watch
it for a couple reasons. It's almost 3 hours
long, Ben Hur it's not. It gets 12 pages of
some of the worst reviews I've ever seen
on IMDB. It gets good ones too, but 12
pages? I hate these kind of movies, I hated
Inglorious Basterds. Gratuitous violence
has never appealed to me. It's boring and
tedious and 3 hours of it isn't happening in
my house. I never saw any of the Kill Bill's
for the same season.

Django didn't make much impression on me I guess, as I can barely remember it.

OTOH, I saw one of the Kill Bill series, and thought it was pretty good. I have not see the whole series. I basically watched it on my brother-in-laws recommendation, and I probably wouldn't have any time soon.

Watching 'Winds of War' for the who knows
how many times. It always amazes me the
money it must have cost to make this TV
mini series. All the location shooting in
EU, all the lavish interiors of the castles
and estates, the war scenes with hundreds
of extras in costume. Vintage planes and
trains and cars. Best war movie I've seen
for realism in the peaceful parts of EU.
Best Hitler I've ever seen portrayed. He
has the maniacal part down perfectly.
You think it is Hitler every time he's on
the screen.

It is 14 hours 40 minutes. The estimated budget was about $35 million. The Big Bang Theory season is 12 hours of TV time although 25% of that is commercials. Estimated salary is over $100 million alone, so the production budgets are about equal adjusted for 30 years of inflation.

WofW attracted an average of 80 million. TBBT attracts about 20 million.

Recreations of history costs surprisingly less than celebrity salaries.

$35 mil is about $100 mil in todays money.
That wouldn't be enough to make the first
2 hours of WofW. Watching this thing, I
feel like I'm being treated to something
that will never be reproduced again, it's
constantly surprising. They spared no
expense. How is it they could make 10
times more movie then they can now,
even accounting for inflation.

Inflation factors may work for the price of bread and milk, but I don't think they are very reliable in terms of other factors like big projects.
The Holland Tunnel cost $48 million to build. At the time nobody had ever built a tunnel underwater that you could drive through. So the technology of venting those kinds of fumes was all experimental. Today that $48 million is said to be worth $650 million. But every plan for a new tunnel for trains or for the subway (which should be much easier than vehicular traffic is in the billions of dollars.

I would think that star salaries of the actors equivalent to the actors in the Winds of War are much bigger than the inflation adjusted numbers. I see John Ritter's salary listed at $50K per episode for Three's Company, Henry Winkler at $50K for Happy Days, and Robin Williams at $35K per episode for Mork and Mindy. At the time these were the top rated shows on TV. Possibly multiply by a factor of four to allow for inflation, they are still nowhere the modern day top rated salaries of $1M per episode.

Kelsey Grammar for Frasier (1993) made $250K/episode which was boosted to $1.6m per episode thru 2003-2004

Not only that, the location shooting and hundreds
of extras is very expensive now. The quality is amazing
in this film.

And the best Hitler I've seen.
