It feels like he is trying to use big words to scare people, but it doesn’t make sense to me. Just like this site shows real style and real ideas in fashion, we need real reasons and real facts in our politics too. Let’s focus on truth, not fear.

I must have missed when Trump declared martial law. My AI friend tells me last US President to do so was Abraham Lincoln. Maybe you are thinking about actions under the Insurrection Act? Or Trump’s attempts at enforcing existing laws using ICE?

According to Michael Flynn, Trump's former National Security advisor there was a discussion of Martial Law in the White House shortly before Biden took office. Trump called it fake news.

Trump never lies of course.

I would contend that Trump implicitly, invoked martial law, by a combination of using the Insurrection Act, and using the military to detain proclaimed domestic enemies.

Using ICE is fine, using the Military to go after declared domestic enemies, and using the military to detain such enemies is where it gets murky. There is a big difference between Federal LE and the military.

There is no formal definition of martial law, rather it is a general confluence of using related acts (IE Insurrection Act,) suspending standard rights of the detained (right to a fair trial and judicial review,) and using the military for domestic enforcement. I feel Trump at least attempted to do this, even if it got shot down pretty fast, technically he did it for a couple days.

Not according to Gandler. When someone says something he believes him!

So there was a ‘discussion’ about it before Biden took office? And that is what has you worried now? I’ll worry about it after the 99 millionth person is deported….

It is interesting that ‘martial law’ is a much more vague term than it should be. Allowing one to ‘do’ it without calling it ‘martial law’ can only be a bad thing. I’m not ‘worried’ about it, but if the ICE protests escalate into an inner city free for all like BLM, then I can see Trump using those powers to squash it.

Trump didn’t even tell the top congressional members about Venezuela operation. He’s flown people out of the US even though a judge had prohibited it. He’s declared questionable emergencies in cities so he can send in the guard. So, many things. He’s not getting any more right in the head as time goes on. Yup, it’s TDS not to consider it viable.

TDS is to consider Trump a reasonable deliberative man. Not even close. I’d consider anyone insane who claims that about him

Are you talking about me? I do not consider Trump ‘a reasonable deliberative man’. I just am able to realize that that does not make (many of) his policies worse than the most reasonable and deliberative Democrat.

I’ve said this more times than I can count. I am embarrassed that Trump the man is President of the USA.

Yet you did nothing to stop it, supported his efforts to keep power illegally, and delusionally continue to say his governance is better than a counterfactual Democrat .president,in the face of all data supporti the opposite conclusion as true.

On some issues I’d rather have a Democrat. Abortion. Not threatening Greenland. Not renaming everything. Not being a narcissist jerk.

I’ve listed the myriad issues I prefer any non Democrat to any Democrat. Read any of my thousand posts on the issue.

Funny how my title of the thread is becoming more accurate than not. Were there signs of an insurrection before Trump surged 2000 ICE troops? Is there one now?
