rxwine Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 189 Posts: 18777 | I catch reruns of Modern Family sometimes. Sometimes I have to admire a writer's clever bit of dialogue. The old guy from Married with Children is trying to impress his younger somewhat daft wife by letting her look at the menu in some restaurant. He finally manages to get her to notice that a sandwich has his name. (was he a football hero, I don't know?) Her response: "They named you after a sandwich?" Perfect takedown. I watch reruns whenever I can. Wittiest show in decades. You have to see them again and again to catch all the small jabs and double entendres. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Of course I understand the actors are not actually doing the deed except in real porn. I'm just saying I'm often surprised by it is all. I'm not shocked or angered or disgusted. I have a few prudes in my extended family and don't want to join their ranks. It just surprises me that it is so accepted. I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |

Nareed Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 346 Posts: 12545 | What are the odds divine right rule will make a comeback? I don't know if it has ever happened. Divine right rule, or outright divine rule, did persist into the mid-XX Century (notably in Japan), but I can't think of a single case where it has been restored after being overthrown. There were restorations of monarchy in England and France, yes, but with limitations and not as divine right. And in France it didn't really take. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |
