Both of mine sailed from Vancouver. First one was one way to Anchorage, then additional 7 days up to Fairbanks and Denali. This one, due to time constraints, is round trip out of Vancouver. Just ignored the free shuttle and did the 1.4 mile walk into ‘downtown’ Juneau from the pier. The girls took a tourist taxi to Mendenhall glacier. I tried to find a bar to watch Knicks game. None of the bars have TVs which are in virtually every bar on the lower 48. I was able to watch NHL on the boat but not NBA. Go figure? |

| SOOPOO Member since: Feb 19, 2014 Threads: 25 Posts: 5966 | I’m typing this at 30,000 feet on a return home flight over Canada. You get free wifi for signing up for a WestJet account. O/U on number of WestJet emails I get in the next 7 days? Roundtrip airfare Toronto-Vancouver was only $400 US. About 1/2 of what it would have been Buffalo/Vancouver. Plus direct flight instead of a stop somewhere. Negative is the 1 1/2 hour ride back IF no traffic and no border delay. And the cost. Traveling to and fro sucks. Being there is great. |

I hope you knew enough to use throw-away email account! I don't live anywhere near a border to make that choice worthwhile, but I have my pick of regional airports to compare airfare (Boston, Manchester, Providence, Bradley in CT). YMMV. |

You can get direct overseas flights from Boston. I go to Toronto for direct to Athens, Dublin, etc…. And like this one, if ending in Canada WAY less expensive to start in Canada. Looks like a French River cruise next summer. I prefer the MUCH smaller river cruises to the 2000 passenger boat I was just on. |

Less likely to get Hanta virus, Legionaries disease and probably Listeria poisoning. "Trumpsplain (def.) explaining absolute nonsense said by TRUMP. |

| odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 166 Posts: 6466 | Before I went on a cruise, I was told I would love the 'drinking part of it'. I hated it. Loud, crowded bars with no contact with the bartenders really possible. Best moment was getting a bottle of wine and sharing it with a cigar on a quiet part of a deck. The gambling sucked too. The one thing I came away with an increased appreciation of Indian food, the buffet chefs knew the cuisine and put out top notch all you can eat I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |

I think I had some type of Indian food from the ‘international flavors’ section of the buffet most meals. I love what they call ‘pickle’. And I love sopping up the masala or vindaloo with naan. I had 1 alcoholic drink on the 7 day cruise, and that was at a ‘shore’ bar. |

e Have you done the Viking river cruises? I have not been on one yet. I have been looking at Rhine one that travels Switzerland to Amsterdam with most stops in Germany. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent. |
