I assume no attorney fees were awarded either, just court costs which should be minimal.

Could be the judge sided with the plaintiffs and was disappointed with the jury verdict and wanted to make that clear by making this weird ruling.

No legal commentator is saying the judge was biased against Afroman. The judge did normal judge things and made normal judge rulings. Not weird at all.

As well, the judge didn't "come out of retirement". The judge retired as he reached mandatory retirement age and was assigned this case as a visiting judge. No skulduggery involved.

Sure, a judge keeps a straight face during the jury trial and has very little opportunity to affect the outcome except when the opportunity to "exercise discretion" arises, as it did here.
