Ron Paul Calls to Shut Down USAID — Says It’s a Billion-Dollar Tool for Global Regime Change and Shadow Governments

The closing of USAID may be one of the most significant changes President Trump has made, among the many dramatic actions in his first couple of weeks in office.

Many Americans may still have the idea that USAID is a government agency delivering relief at disaster sites overseas. They may still remember the bags of rice or grain with the USAID logo on them, but that is not USAID.

USAID is a key component of the U.S. government’s regime change operations worldwide. USAID spends billions of dollars every year propping up NGOs overseas that function as shadow governments, eating away at elected governments that U.S. interventionists want to overthrow.

Behind most U.S. foreign policy disasters overseas, you will see the fingerprints of USAID. From Ukraine to Georgia and far beyond, USAID is meddling in the internal affairs of foreign countries—something that would infuriate Americans if it were happening to us.

I just saw a Republican senator talking about how she's been trying to investigate USAID for years and she never gets anywhere. She said they stonewall, they lie, they refuse to turn over documents, they stall, you never get anywhere with them because they have so much to hide. You can tell what a big deal this is and how much corruption there is by how the Democrats are coming unglued about it. It's everybody's favorite slush fund, and now the plug is being pulled.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

It makes perfect sense.

Maybe newly approved RFK Jr. can tie them into creating Covid so we can get a few to rat on the others.

Comrade Fauci seems like a squealer.

She and them, need to be audited by someone not in the deep state:

"In 2010, USAID managed $4.4 billion for Haiti under Secretary of State Hillary Clinton."

Nature abhors a vacuum. We';re already complaining about China's rising influence around the world, and you want to pull back from engagement and give China even more room to muscle in?

The less tha 1% of the Federal budget that goes to USAID is money well spent. An MD should see that.

Typical libbie thinking. We don’t have the money, but somehow it’s wise to borrow more to give it away. Why not increase Alzheimer's funding by 10 billion? How about 5 billion more for manned space exploration? Why not increase forestry research by 15 billion? How about another 30 billion for vaccine research? How about 10 billion for biofuel research?

All laudable. Start from ZERO. Decide how much you take in in federal taxes/fees/tatiffs/etc…. Allocate that money according to the country’s priorities. Included in that ‘priority list’ is of course paying down the debt, which of course means needing less to service the debt, freeing up MORE for your priority list.

Is it possible USAID makes the cut? Sure! But right now we are BORROWING money we obviously don’t have to fund it.

Typical short-sighted conservative thinking. Wouldn't you even want to know what programs you just shut off? Maybe there was a small program shipping in insulin to teens in some remote country. Or a temporary food shortage due to drought and you're starving children?

Nope, you just may have killed more people than you ever saved in your career.

I’m all for evaluating each expenditure individually. That’s why I said it’s possible we keep funding USAID. I’ve brought this up a dozen times over the years here. If we really just wanted to use our money to save lives, how about this? Just take all the public money used to fund football stadium construction and put it into anti-malarial initiatives in Africa. Can save HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of lives.

But back to your point, and mine! There is a NEVER ENDING need for funds to support a gazillion good causes worldwide. I’m not sure it is our country’s (taxpayers) responsibility to take care of them all. Charity is a complex issue. We have BillyRyan who takes his own money and time to feed and clothe the homeless. And I’m guessing EvenBob does not.

Don’t you think EB should not be forced to take care of the rest of the world’s problems through his tax dollars? Gene, how much did you donate UNICEF last year? To Doctors Without Borders? To the food bank of Prague? To the Micronesia Battle against Hunger? To the Ecuadorian Fight against Lead Poisoning?

It will be interesting to see what Federal programs remain intact after four years of Trump's proposed budget slashing and returning power to the states.

Trump wants to end the Dept. of Education and give full autonomy to the states: no doubt he'll want to turn of the spigot of federal dollars.

Hello, inequality: good schools in NH, rotten schools in Mississippi.

Then there's social and health services: cut off the spigot, leave it to the states; will he truncate medicaid?

If not, why not?

Like him or not, change is afoot.
