I took one of these silly severance packages from my first job; it paid me for half a year to do nothing. Of course I got a new job so adding the two up was lucrative. It was good for ME, but certainly not my initial employer who had to replace me!

What should have been done…. use Mr. DOGE to identify which departments have two many employees. And more specifically, what exact job descriptions. Then offer those employees some sort of package, likely far less than 8 months worth of freebies. This trimming of the fat is a good idea, but is NOT an emergency that needs to be done haphazardly. Offering the deal to ALL federal employees is haphazard.

I haven't heard a breakdown or even clear what the status of everyone is. If it's a civil service position, does retiting early affect the benefits. If so, why would you want to quit if you're near retiement. Or are they getting fired anyway if they don't retire or the job being eliminated.

Trump probably didn't consider government workers might be married to a MAGA supporter. May have a two salary family. Suddenly dealing with a job seeker again.
