Yes get rid of anyone who is independent, so Trump can claim anything he wants.

Humor me. How do you know they were ‘independent’. Who appointed them?

When I see a number, like 17, I wonder how large is the denominator? Did he fire 17 out of the 20? 17 out of 100? 17 out of 1000? Let’s say it was 17 out of 100….. Are 83 ‘independent watchdogs’, however you want to define that role, enough? Still too many? How much does an ‘independent watchdog’ make? How much do their activities cost businesses in extra red tape? Is there ANY evidence that Mr Independent Watchdog actually provided ANY value to society? Or is it possible they just cost money and put out work products for the sole purpose of keeping their job?

My real life personal experience with I guess what would be deemed a ‘watchdog’ was the HIPAA inspectors who would come and ‘credential’ my hospital. The hospital would waste COUNTLESS man hours in the weeks before an inspection getting ready for the arrival of ‘the HIPAA guy’. And the minute after the guy left everything returned to the way it was before the preparations began. And NONE of this would translate to better patient care. Just a giant waste of time and money.

My favorite specific HIPAA story was from a few decades ago. Portable X ray machines were left in the hallways right outside the ORs. But apparently there was some regulation that they had to be this far from a door, this far from an outlet, this far from a fire extinguisher, etc…. So essentially they could be NOWHERE near the actual ORs. They’d have to be very far from the actual OR suite. So on HIPAA inspection day…. the hospital paid two workers to do nothing else but wheel these XR at machines in circles until needed in an OR.

I’m not saying there aren’t some valid needs for watchdogs…. but I’ll bet losing those 17 WON’T be the disaster the losing party (Democrats) think it will be.

Are you sure you know what agency was inspecting you?

If so it would be a matter of pennies per transaction ... and why would they not round down as well as up?

I'm just sad that anyone goes around with an argument like that

the politicians where somewhere jobs depend on making the pennies, fight for keeping them

A few pennies here, a few pennies there, and pretty soon it all adds up to real money.

I would never trust a merchant or the government to round down if we get rid of the penny. In their minds rounding down means lost revenue. All those fractions of cents or rounding down to the nearest nickel or dime or whatever adds up.

Independant IGs are required by Federal law across almost all Federal departments, and they are aimed at preventing inefficient or unlawful operations within their parent agency. There are 72 of them. Whomever gets fired are going to have to be replaced, by law.

It's s good thing you retired if you didn't want to follow patient safety/workplace safety rules.

Perhaps SOOPOO can provide us a better idea. I couldn’t think of any. Going without at least one level of independent oversight seems like a worse idea than having one regardless if people love it, or think it’s too imperfect.

The IG system was born out of cases of fraud, waste and abuse that went unchecked.

So somewhere there is a ‘law’ saying there have to be exactly 72 of these Independent IG’s? Not 55 of them?
And by the way, when Trump fired these 17, did he specifically say they would not be replaced? Or did he just think those 17 sucked?

Trust me, in the real world there are some patient safety/workplace safety rules that are reasonable and followed to the T. And others which are so inherently stupid that they are universally ignored. I gave one good example.

Honestly SooPoo do you even do ANY research on yoru own? I mean, you keep saying "I don't much about [XXXXX] and then spout off confidently ignoant assumptions about [XXXXX]." In all your years you've never heard of an Inspector General? I say this because it's getting tiresome to keep calling out your ignorance. But yes, there are 72 statutory IGs.

In my hospital you don't follow the safety rules-including the inherently stupid ones-you get booted. It's a good thing you retired.

Trump Restores Single-Sex Jails, Transgenders Sent Back to Men’s Prisons

"The approximately 1,500 male federal prisoners who identify as women will now be sent to men’s facilities in the wake of President Trump’s executive order establishing single-sex prisons, according to a report by the New York Times."

Some of these guys going back to the all male prisons are about to become really really popular. Lol
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.
