I pay my fair share of taxes

I'm not asking to have my taxes reduced

I object to the entire country having to pay significantly more for products via these tariffs which are really just taxes in disguise

these tariffs (taxes in disguise that will surely cause inflation) will have a much greater impact on the poor since their income is so much less

for the wealthy, the increase in prices will mean very little

to be clear - I would only be in favor of raising taxes on the wealthy if it was absolutely necessary

we've been running a deficit for a very long time -

it's up to the economists to decide if the U.S. Government. really needs to take in more funds

from google:

"The United States has been running a budget deficit in most years since 1970, with only four exceptions: 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. This means that the U.S. government has generally spent more than it has collected in revenue for over half a century. "

John Galt was not selfish. Selfish is demanding others pay for things.

"I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, or ask another man to live for mine."
- John Galt.

Whether you agree with it or not, you can't define it as anything but selfish.

Ever hear a notable humanitarian, or philanthropist say that? Or the Pope?

Or Jesus?

You can afford to live on less. Quit being so greedy.

Not selfish at all. Selfish is asking another man to live for your sake.

yes, I can afford it

I'm not crying for myself

I'm concerned about those who are struggling, maybe a couple of steps from homelessness - who have much fewer resources than me

why should they be taxed (thru tariffs) in this manner______?______answer_____________they shouldn't be____________it's just plain wrong

it's just some very nasty trickery - a way to tax even the poorest among us without actually calling it a tax because adding income taxes to the poorest among us would never fly

They are probably paying no income tax so it will not hurt to ask them to pay their fair share. Besides, Trump is talking about refunding the tariff revenue.

Please answer. Which is worse for the ‘Average Joe’? A tariff on imported upscale jewelry or gasoline taxes? A tariff on yachts or taxes on soda pop? A tariff on foie gras or taxes on McDonalds?

It’s really simple. The top 1% currently pay more than 40% of all the taxes. It seems many don’t feel that’s their fair share. In summary , they want the rest of society to be supported by the 1%.

What is their ‘fair share’? I think we are at the sweet spot.

All four of those fiscal years under a Democratic President. Does Dr. SooPoo wish to continue to tell us that Democrats are the party of deficits?

You can't compare marginal rates in those days to today. Back then there were more deductions, shelters, and write-offs. This was changed in the 1986 tax reform act, which lasted all of 4 years until Democrats had to start jacking up the top rate again.

Fair would be the same rate for all. Flat tax.

The point of the post, though, was to quit saying "the rich don't pay their fair share." They clearly are. Time to stop storming town halls screaming "TAX THE RICH", quit wearing dresses with it painted, quit pretending things are not what they are.

It depends, the top 1% pay dramatically less of their total wealth in taxes than middle income Americans. Yes, on paper they pay more of their income, but there are many ways around this if you don't have a traditional job.
