I honestly thought this was an antisemitic talking point it was so over the top. No, I looked at the original source.

Republicans are trying to give U.S. Service member protection to American citizens and residents who go join the IDF. Like what?

The GOP is trying to make local benefits to bolster the strength of the IDF.

Imagine if Democrats did this for Americans who join the Canadian Army (who is a much better ally than Israel, and a more ethical country) we would hear endlessly about how they are traitors, etc .. But, giving American benefits to IDF members, sure.... This is a very sick sign, that the zios do run our country, at least the current admin.

I think if you are in another countries army, you should be forced to renounce your US citizenship. Even if it’s an ally today, it may not be tomorrow. What if you are given an order that is against American interests?

The whole concept of ‘dual citizen’ seems wrong to me as well. Pick one.

So it is currently legal to serve in a military of a foreign allied power, as long as it does not jeopardize the U.S. or cause a conflict of interest in various fields.

I don't love this law, but it is understandable. However, giving veteran benefits and service member benefits to people for foreign service is absurd.

Dual citizenship I support, it is an insurance policy if we need to leave America. It is good to have citizenship and a plan to get to a foreign country if something happens.

Maybe the Dems should offer an amendment extending benefits to those who join the Ukraine Army, or in the defense of Taiwan?

My goodness people (gander and those who responded to his post).

Does anyone ever take a couple minutes to do some research on gandler's claims? He is the "king" of misinformation, disinformation and outright lies.

If you took less that a minute to click on his post and read "H.R.8445", you would find out that the bill was introduced in the House on May 17, 2024 (by a republican when bidumb was president). The bill provided a very limited set of benefits (see below). The relief and protections provided under this Act are only available if that service is similar to military service as defined in this Act. Additionally, the relief and protections provided to such citizen shall terminate on the date of discharge or release from such service in the IDF.

Bill summary:
Quote:
This bill provides eligibility to U.S. citizens who are serving in the Israeli Defense Forces for benefits and protections available under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) and the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA). Specifically, the bill requires the service of such citizens to be regarded in the same manner as service in the uniformed services under USERRA or military service under SCRA.

The USERRA provides protections for members of the uniformed services regarding employment and reemployment rights, including in matters with state and private employers. The SCRA provides financial and legal protections to active-duty servicemembers, including by suspending certain judicial proceedings or financial responsibilities that may adversely affect them during military service.
.
If you dug a little deeper you would have also discovered that H.R. 8445, introduced in May 2024 did not pass. The bill was referred to the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs and did not advance, becoming dead upon the start of the new Congress.

That is an incorrect summary.

However, even if it is a "limited set" of benefits. Why would we give any benefits to members of a foreign military?

And, it did not pass in 2024, but there is a push for it and earlier this week, military.com did a big review on it so it is back in the news.

https://www.military.com/feature/2026/04/19/emerging-push-extend-some-us-benefits-idf-soldiers.html

Lots of Israel watchers have been talking about it this week, so it is very relevant.

Here is what I posted:

The following is your posted link to the bill: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/8445

If you notice that when you open your link and scroll down the page you will notice the words:
Summary: H.R.8445 — 118th Congress (2023-2024)

If you scroll down a little further you will see where I copied WORD FOR WORD the summary that you claim is incorrect. How stupid can you get???

That is very cute, we all know which Congress this is from.

Please explain to me as a veteran (also, are you a combat vet?) why you think Americans who join foreign militaries should get such benefits?

I agree that it was "very cute" (and accurate).

What difference does this make? I posted that the bill was introduced by the republicans.

First, you explain how my summary was "incorrect".

I don't consider those limited benefits. Maybe limited compared to what Israel would like.

That being said, you are bending over backwards to support IDF soldiers getting U.S. benefits, so there is not much more to discuss.

“The remarks by Maj Gen Avi Bluth, head of the army’s central command, were made in a recent closed forum but were leaked to Israel’s Haaretz newspaper. Bluth has so far not denied the authenticity of the Haaretz account. The Israel Defense Forces did not respond to a request for comment.

He said they had shot 42 Palestinian stone-throwers on West Bank roads last year, insisting that such acts amounted to terrorism.

Bluth said the army did not shoot Jewish settler militants for doing the same thing, noting that on one occasion when a settler throwing stones at motorists had been wounded by army gunfire, there was a public “ruckus”
