| odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 165 Posts: 6374 | Baru nuts, also called barukas nuts [actually seeds], are another new 'superfood'. The FDA does not consider anything a superfood, an opinion probably widely shared outside of health food retailers. However, I tried some since they have a lot of vitamins and fiber. After eating maybe a couple of ounces, my gut seemed to react to them quickly, I don't quite how to describe it. Sort of like eating a slim jim or something, the gut lets you know it knows something new went down the hatch, it seemed like. Might have been my imagination, and no ill effects came later, but I decided maybe you don't want to eat too many at once. For one thing you are loading up quickly on fiber, 5 grams per ounce. >>> Baru or cumbaru (scientific name: Dipteryx alata) is the fruit of the baruzeiro, an imperious tree native to the Brazilian Cerrado. From its fruit comes the nut, full of good nutritional aspects. In fact, the baru nut has more nutrients than peanuts and most other nuts. __ Are baru nuts a superfood? | odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 165 Posts: 6374 | I was looking up something else and came across Vidocq , a very influential first-of-his-type detective of 18th/19th century France. His own criminal background was his strong point! >>> Eugène-François Vidocq (1775–1857), the Sûreté’s founding chief ... After a youth of petty criminality, he spent the first fifteen years of his adult life either in prison or on the run, leaving him with little time to pursue a political career. And for a man more at home donning disguises and planning daring jailbreaks, administration wasn’t really his thing. __ It is hardly surprising, given Vidocq's prominence in the field, that Poe chose Paris as the setting for “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” (Graham's Magazine, April 1841). Although the character of Dupin is not based specifically on Vidocq, he was very clearly developed from the world that Vidocq had created. __ How many stories did Poe write about Dupin? three Dupin was featured in three of Poe's stories, establishing another feature of the detective genre–the recurring character. Raw food advocacy is another one of those health trendy things. Of course, there is the total anti-animal milk people as well. Other than mostly plants, I eat few raw foods. Tuna, or Salmon?
