I would think that it would depend on the opponent.

Ask Joe Paterno
He weighed the choices and picked wins over child rape

Unfortunately, it worked out very well for him.
At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a deterrent.

He won national championships and made a 100 million dollars.

Jerry Sandusky on the other hand is in prison and his son is also for child pornography.

Joe Biden is on the record as saying he would not pardon Hunter Biden. Joe Biden has just pardoned Hunter Biden. Gee, what a surprise! Hypocrite til the end. All the yapping about ‘ no one should be above the law’ was clearly just a political tactic, and never actually something they believed in.

That being said, it is LEGAL for Joe to pardon his son. I’m pretty sure I’d pardon my son given the same circumstances.

Unfortunately, I think Trump will use this as an excuse to pardon the January 6 criminals.

I don’t know enough about the Hunter crimes to know if, like Trump, he was only prosecuted because of his name and not the crimes he committed.

I'm amused some are using pardon of a one's own son as an equivalency for Trump to now pardon literally anyone. Hypocrisy yes, but equivalency, not even close.

You know I agree with you. I wanted the death penalty for all who stormed the Capital. It was treason. Nothing more. Nothing LESS.

I’m just saying TRUMP will use it as an excuse.

The worst thing Biden did is trying to explain Hunter's problems as a miscarriage of justice. It got a lot of push for political reasons, but the facts against Hunter hold up AFAICT.

Death penalty for a demonstration?

On his was put of office, Bill Clinton pardoned his brother.

Trump already was going to pardon some or all Jan 6 convicts and defendants.

Two Federal judges were on record as saying the Federal crimes Donny was charged with-documents and Jan 6-did not violate his rights. Indeed, he did not make that argument in court. Donny's charges were legit and did not violate his due process rights. Deal with it.

In fear of the rhetoric coming from Donny and his appointees, if I were Joe, I'd pardon each and every DOJ lawyer and staff member involved with the prosecution of Trump and each and every military officer, NCO and enlisted and government employee involved in the withdrawal of Afghanistan. Just to protect them from Donny and his loyalists.

You can't have it both ways, SooPoo. You can't say the Jan 6 defendants deserved execution for treason but support the man who was leading them from the front.
