Pretty sure all the penalties in our major sports weren't created to be used to some teams advantage, but that's what's been done with many of them. You sometime intentionally violate a rule to achieve another gain.

Part of the difference is he isn't using it, the people telling his eulogy are using it. FWIW I agree, you do not use "Dr" unless you are some kind of medical doctor.

When Nixon introduced Kissinger as his selection for Secretary of State, he called him Dr. Kissinger. Nixon’s words would have been carefully chosen with agreement from Kissinger, so Kissinger clearly used the title. In my opinion the reasons that Jill Biden was criticized an Kissinger was not are snobbery and politics. And I don’t think Jill asked friends and acquaintances to call her Dr. as implied elsewhere in the thread. In situations where Joe would be called Senator, she preferred to use her title of doctor.

Snobbery:
Kissinger was on the faculty of Harvard, active and well known in academia, publishing papers and serving on advisory boards, etc.. Biden is a community college teacher with an Ed.D from Delaware. Her critics just don’t respect the the title. How dare she pose as an intellectual on the biggest of stages?

Politics:
Nixon apparently saw a political advantage in emphasizing Kissinger’s intellectual chops and for some reason Joe felt that Jill using her title helped him. Note that her critics are republicans and her defenders are democrats.
The mind hungers for that on which it feeds.

Ok. My LOL moment of the day.

Both in-laws have COVID now. They are vaxxed. Hopefully mild as in their 80’s….

Don't forget the ketamine.

That's a popular drug at Burning Man. As with anything, moderation is key.

Half fish, half woman, Actress Glynis Young dies at 100. (I was just amused that's the first picture they used.) Never heard of her. Looks vaguely familiar.
