General Election 2024

In my view the big things are the Presidency and the Senate. Taking the house would be nice, but it is not a huge deal. If the Democrats are able to hold the Senate and win the Presidency, it will be huge. The Senate is seeming like it will be more of a challenge than the presidency.

I agree. But how do his cult members get de-programmed? Deal 'firmly' with them? There are a few otherwise 'decent' Americans and even members of this forum, who I'd call friends, who are deluded enough to support him. As many as possible need to be persuaded: Need to be 'firmly' persuaded of the truth, or at least persuaded of the sickness in his lies. Some support him in spite of his lies and in spite of his insane ranting because "he's not a liberal". "Hell, can't give the liberals power. Anything but that". Win or Lose in November, the bleating will go on and get louder. If somehow he gets re-elected, it's obvious he'll claim a refund of the term that he claims was , in his words,stolen off him: President for life, anyone!!!

If/when he loses in a close contest, and it will be close, he'll increase his call for civil war. With his MAGA base, he'll get it. Incitement on 6/1? We ain't seen nothing yet! I see no end in sight for your country's collective insanity.

Should we despairing non-Americans, give up on you all until the infection has cleared? I recall posts from patriotic Americans in 2016, where they basically said ' Sorry about this obscene aberration of an election, normal service will be resumed as soon as possible'. But they underestimated the breadth and depth of his influence. They still do.

Even if I assume he's completely rational and that post is just a way to fire up his base, I can't accept that method because it deals significant distrust in election results, and two, it gins up the violent types.

And let's say he really wants to disrupt his election and he has evidence that all those courts couldn't seem to find.. When is he going to prove it. When is he going to stop engaging in this less than sensible farce. He doesn't care if some people get physically injured, including his own supporters over this. And that may happen again.

Well, we are willing to consider a third party candidate who isn't a wacko, who has rational policy positions. So far, the US electorate thinks nobody fits that bill. Want to get rid of the two party system? Then run a third party candidate that would earn votes.

A viable third party candidate, who actually succeeds in willing electoral votes, would plunge elections into chaos and would most likely cause contingent elections-decided by the House for Prez and Senate for VP. Unless, of course, we get rid of the electoral college.
