Is Covid over?

I remember the first few weeks of it I mostly just left the house to go to on my daily walk or the grocery store. The later was surreal. I went very early on Saturdays since I did not want to deal with waiting on line because of some limitation on number of customers. In and out fast, just bought what basics they had. Nowhere else to go as most things were closed. The whole thing felt like the Germans invaded and I had a 2 hour pass to get business done.

And wow, the line at the state store* to get booze when it first opened! You would have thought Prohibition had just ended.

*In PA almost all wine and booze is sold in "state stores" owned by the state. A few limited exemptions mostly wineries.

I read stories about people near attacking people not wearing masks. People minding their own business and someone comes up to them. There was that woman in Buffalo who called the cops on people having a closed meeting in one of their stores but no masks. To the cops credit they said they had to take the call like they had to take any call and left when they were told they were not needed.

Anyone wonders how fascism and communism get support just look at how the maskers not only complied but acted.

Same maskers then became vaxers who wanted people to have to show papers to access most public places. Talk about begging for your freedoms to be taken away.

A Woman said she wasn't wearing a mask in a store when lockdowns had started. She was checking produce and she sneezed and the Cashier said something like,"Ma'am, go pay in self checkout, I'm not trying to get Covid from you!" She said she was shocked that she was spoken to like this, over a sneeze and not wearing a mask, things that would have been seen as completely normal in 2019, just a year before! 😱

That kind of thing reminds me of an episode of "Sliders" where they are in a parallel world with some kind of outbreak and if you coughed even twice they had a goon squad that arrested you and dragged you off to a camp.

I got sent home from work for coughing during the later stages of it. Almost died, but from other stuff.

Did you ever watch "Sliders?" It was a really clever show. 4 people stuck "sliding" between alternate worlds. Said other worlds usually had a divergence that made it totally different. The one I said had no penicillin so people got and stayed sick. On another women were in charge of things with men in the position of women in the USA pre-1960s. Another 99% of men were killed so the remaining men were kept in prison and forced to stud women considered beautiful enough to repopulate the world.

Sadly it did not catch on enough, probably too far ahead of its time. Today it would do well on Netflix. They changed it up to be less introspective and more action-oriented. Also an ongoing struggle with a species called Kromags, which ruined the concept. But I will watch old episodes streamed time to time.
