The families of Russian men drafted under President Vladimir Putin's partial mobilization last year have planned mass protests demanding their return home, amid reports that soldiers are being prohibited from leaving the military.

The soldiers' relatives published a manifesto on the Telegram channel The Way Home on November 12 demanding that their men be allowed home, and inviting Russians nationwide to participate in rallies on November 19. Since 2014, protesters in Russia have faced punishment for holding demonstrations without the permission of the authorities.

At some point, Russia runs out of convicts, derelicts, poor or jobless people who will not have as much power to complain about being cannon fodder. Somewhat like Col. Klink's eternal fear, no one really wants to be sent to the Russian Front, particularly if they don't think the cause is worth risking their life for.

Cisco created cybersecurity prototypes for Ukraine to protect its power grid, but getting them into Ukraine required a bit of subterfuge.

US agencies helped sneak the devices into the country, in part by using a US Air Force plane carrying humanitarian aid, according to a new report from CNN.

Through meetings organized by the US Department of Commerce earlier this year, Cisco helped Ukraine's power grid operator, Ukrenergo, solve a critical problem it was facing: how to protect the grid's GPS-based clocks — which deliver information about power flow across locations — even as Russian forces tried to hack the grid, CNN reported.

"Cisco, along with power grid experts in the public and private sector, worked tirelessly for 8 months to develop, test and deploy our solution to Ukraine," Joe Marshall, Cisco Talos security strategist, told Business Insider. "It involved a great deal of trial and error, but we managed to develop a unique solution that helps mitigate the GPS jamming issue."

For the same reason the attack on Israel was good for Putin, if China really is going after Taiwan, it would also be a good time for them also. From what I heard previously; they were likely planning a later date. Not ready at the moment.

.
a google search quoted the NYT as saying about 315,000 Russians have died in the war and about 70,000 Ukranians

looks like Putin is willing to lose a million people to his face saving adventure

he won't back down or compromise - that's not who he is - he needs to show how tough he is

That number is most likely the killed and wounded. The media regularly seems to conflate them for more shocking headlines. Probably only around 100,000 dead on the Russian side. Most people dont remember that there were only about 350,000 Americans killed in all of WW2.

Russians have employed the strategy of “cannon fodder” sending waves of poorly trained and armed troops at Ukrainians to try to overwhelm them. So, wouldn’t be all that surprised if totals are higher.

the numbers I quoted (315,000 Russian dead and 70,000 Ukranian dead) are shown (approximately) at SEVERAL DIFFERENT NEWS SOURCES in addition to the NYT

the numbers include civilians and soldiers

a great many more have been wounded - many severely

modern weapons are much more capable of inflicting mass casualties than the weapons of WW2 except for nuclear weapons which are not being deployed

linked is one other source for these numbers

Did you read the article you quoted? the first line of it says "- A declassified U.S. intelligence report assessed that the Ukraine war has cost Russia 315,000 dead and injured troops"

you're right - my bad - I apologize

I looked again and the other estimates I saw that showed that high number dead were from Ukranian sources and are not likely to be reliable
