Let's say, they announced a month ago, that evacuations of all personal including Afghans should start at once. Do you really think without the Taliban advance all these same Afghans would have gone to the airports and gotten out then? You have to remember, as far as they would know the afghan army is in control. Their government hadn't collapsed yet.

I think it's a fantasy to believe that all these people would have packed up and left early prior to their government collapsing and the Taliban going in.

It is not worth the time or effort to try and change the mind of someone who does not see this as a blunder on the President's part.

Part of what you are saying may well be true but slow rolling the program to provide more people entry sooner deepens the probable number of people who will be killed for help us. We likely would not have gotten all out...but we surely could have done better. Now people are left to their own devices to make it to an airport that is surrounded by the Taliban to get out.

The fantasy is more in the mind of the President than anyone else--he thinks he did the best he could.

Again, I hope we can figure out a way to have a better outcome than it looks like we will have as of right now. I am okay if he successfully makes that happen.

Might be up to 40000 people who cannot get out due to the incompetence of the evacuation.

Cargo planes are opening their gear to drop out all the bodies and body part to minimize the biological contamination.

But at least there are no mean tweets!

I think the reason people around Trump talked him out of his plan, is he didn't plan on taking any Afghan refugees AT ALL! But even Herr Stephen Miller protested, "Nine! Nine! Nine! Commandant, even for you, ze optics will be too awful!"

Just like Trump could forget anyone at a moments notice when he wants to, (like the Kurds.)
