Even many Republicans are likely to use the resources of the Federal government if it comes down to food issues. Or least enough republicans to pass assistance at a federal level. Perhaps to build those desalination plants.

Desalination plants won't help agriculture. And CA should be paying to build them, not the feds.

Lets not forget that we have a massive sea in the middle of the Southern CA desert
Salton Sea. Nobody knows what to do with that massive body of water.

Depends on several things. If multiple states are affected and so forth as to how likely the Feds are to get involved in more than standard aid relief.

They can poison things with it, if they need to do that.

“Down to 36% capacity”. That means those herbicides, pesticides, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and other contaminants in the water are now at higher PPM’s. Not all of them can be removed before the water is returned to the drinking water supply.

"Las Vegas water contained 30 pollutants, including small amounts of radium, arsenic and lead; a dozen exceeded the EPA’s health guidelines. North Las Vegas water contained 11 chemicals that exceeded health guidelines set by federal and state agencies. Researchers found the drinking water had traces of 26 contaminants, including uranium."

“The USGS and U.S Fish and Wildlife Service tracked the channel from its origins, before the inflow from the sewage plants, to where it empties into Las Vegas Bay in the lake. Their findings: The amount of endocrine-disrupting compounds (including hormone treatments and other chemicals affecting reproduction) increased more than 646 times.”

“Not far from the mouth of the drainage channel - amid the fishing boats and sightseeing tours - water is sucked into a long pipe, destined for a drinking water treatment plant, then Las Vegas - thus beginning the cycle all over again.”
Good post.

"After just seven weeks, male fathead minnows began producing yolk proteins, their gonads shrank, and their behavior was feminized - they fought less, floating passively. They also stopped reproducing, resulting in "ultimately, a near extinction of this species from the lake," said the scientists."

I've noticed my gonads have shrank as well, I was blaming it on old age, now I'm not so sure.

'Feds Cut Water Deliveries To Arizona And Nevada, May Impact Food Production'

As the western US is seeing it's worst drought in 1,200 years, the federal government is reducing the amount of water that Arizona and Nevada can draw from the draught stricken Colorado River.

'The agency responsible for managing water and power in the western US said "urgent action" is needed as water levels in the Colorado River's two largest reservoirs -- Lake Mead and Lake Powell -- continue to drop. Under the new conservation efforts, 21% of Arizona's annual water allocation from the river system will be reduced in 2023.'

'Nevada will see 8% of water deliveries reduced, and Mexico's share will be cut by 7%. California will be spared from the new measures that begin next year.'

'Lake Powell, meanwhile, could face hydropower production disruptions as soon as next year'

While this happening, foreign nations like China and Saudi that don't have enough fresh water for their own crops, are virtually shipping billions of gallons of US water to their own countries, by buying up US farmland and shipping the produce to their own countries.

In 2013 the Chinese owned WH Group, purchased 146,000 in nine states in a single deal. China has made more farmland purchases since then. Most recently near a US Airforce base in North Dakota. Dual purpose, no doubt.

The Saudi owned Amarai owns at least 14,000 acres.

'Foreign Firms Sucking “Virtual” Water From America’s Parched Southwest'

"For every 100 acres or so, a corporate farm owner will dig a well as deep as 2,000 feet and pull up water from the ancient aquifer at up to 2,000 gallons per second, often 24 hours a day.'

They just need to leave as they’ve done and that will happen soon enough. They need to figure that out BEFORE, or alongside if soon these other water considerations as it continuing to dry up at the pace it has would create so much toxic air for breathing to make entire LA and San Diego regions completely uninhabitable before they’d need to figure out how to continue with that they’ve done till now.

Glad you asked.

The feds need to design a method to pump water from the Columbia River to Lake Shasta, and from there it can flow south.

Right. Shift more scarce US water to Chinese and Saudi owned farmland, so they can send even more US grown produce to their own countries, while annual US food inflation is 12.1.

It probably wouldn't be enough water anyway.

The US farmland owned by China alone, uses more than 50 billion gallons of water annually.

Americans never see any of that produce.

The US should ban foreign nations from owning US farmland.
