WTF? Politico describes record low unemployment as “alarming.”

Sorry, but if the GOP were in power in DC they would be bragging about the record low unemployment from the rooftops and NO MEDIA OUTLET ON EARTH would describe that as “alarming.” But go on about the “liberal media,” righties…

Gotta agree. When I first started investing it was explained to me that companies do better in high unemployment times as they have a larger pool of potential employees and more leverage with them. Good for Main Street…. Bad for Wall Street.

It appears that the people of Nebraska still have a work ethic and take jobs when they are available instead of sitting back and letting the government look after them. All the states would be this low if their people wanted to work. Kudos to the Nebraskan workers.

There is a tremendous population of folks who are not even counted as part of the workforce. They have moved away from being counted as "employed" or "unemployed" to a categories not used in figuring unemployment. That reduction in the pool of available workers is part of the issue with millions of unfilled jobs and artificially lower unemployment. No one is cheating; the statistics have been done this way for a while.

How are these people getting by? How do they plan to get by if their source is saved money? How can we get them back in the workforce?

With the average savings level in the US fairly low, you have to think that money will run out for those who have not been saving for a long time.

They'll get interested in time....then they will bitch because the spent their safety net.

As long as the government is not helping them stay out of work, they can do what the want. The government needs to encourage work, not laziness.

Payments can be a bummer. Many don't grasp how fast a small savings will deplete if they have to go without income for even a short time.

I know AZ has mentioned an almost guaranteed route to poverty is to have kids out of wedlock. That statistic is so sure, it is sad. A sadder way to guarantee the suffering of those kids is to not force deadbeat dads to kick in what they are supposed to. It should be a law that the father must be listed on the birth certificate.

There are many dead beat dads out there living much better than the kids they have abandoned. "if you're going to play, you have to pay".

Denmark's sex education system has been successful in preventing unwanted pregnancies and promoting safe sex practices. So much so that the nation's birth rate has fallen below the so-called replacement rate necessary to maintain the same level of population, according to The New York Times. As a result, the Danish government is encouraging people to reproduce at a younger age.

"For many, many years, we only talked about safe sex, how to prevent getting pregnant,” Marianne Lomholt, national director of Sex and Society, told The Times. “Suddenly we just thought, 'Maybe we should actually also tell them about how to get pregnant.'”

Abstinence is at the heart of U.S. sex education.

Abstinence-only sex education promotes no sex before marriage, and thus is less likely to cover any form of contraception. Among 18- and 19-year-olds, 41 percent know little or nothing about condoms, and 45 percent say they know nothing about contraception.

But parents may be the reason the U.S. favors a less comprehensive sex education. A survey found that 90 percent of parents believe that teaching abstinence was the best for their child's health and future, according to National Abstinence Education Association. The survey also found that 59 percent of parents believed that government funding should support abstinence sex education over comprehensive sex education.

In the interim, the U.S. is paying for the lack of such information. And as this ATTN: video suggests, the U.S. has the highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases and the highest rate of teenage pregnancies among all industrialized countries.
