And, the reason Republicans want less laws is because of greed. There needs to be a balance, if companies only answer to the shareholders or owner, that would be madness.... There needs to be an equalizing force. |

No, that is what a good business does. It is literally none of your business what the CEO of XYZ makes if you own no shares. None. And it is none of the government's business. "Equalizing Force" seems like a code word for socialism. My statement remains, if a person thinks CEO pay is so good they need to get a job as CEO. The President is a fink. |

If having any level of shares in a company is the minimum grounds for being eligible to have an opinion about wage controls, then I have the minimum qualifications for the majority of fortune 500 companies and probably many companies neither of us ever has heard of.... I personally prefer shopping at employee-owned companies or employee cooperatives because I think that they are more just and equitable for workers at every level (and compensation and satisfaction reports seem to back this up). But, nevertheless, the does need to be a moderating force for minimum wage, or else companies will pay as little as possible for people to accept those positions. CEO is just one label for high level management, there are many positions that pay has been increasing far higher than the average worker over the last 30 years, you can argue because their responsibility has been increasing but that is a shallow argument.... With few exceptions (I have pointed out some) people at the top, tend to have salary increased disproportionately higher than the average worker. This is a trend for top-heavy management, which used to be something feared by unions and the general public.... But, now is praised by conservatives.... https://www.epi.org/publication/ceo-compensation-2018/ |

Since at least Clintons nullifying of the Glass Stegal act, America has favored banking [as our main generator of GDP] to manufacturing. So now we have a service economy that allows banks/hedge funds to loot all the pensions and the top .001% to collect 90% of the GDP made in this country. Approve or not, that's what we have. No country that doesn't manufacture can remain the premier global super power very long. We can't even manufacture facemasks in quantity during a plague or have an election settle nearly as well as third world country's. China is ripping us to shreds with 5G. China has invested 2 trillion dollars into 5G infrastructure, while parts of Az. don't even have 3G. Not much point in arguing about who gets the last .001%. The last official act of any government is to loot the treasury. GW |

Just remember, you get "say" based on the percent you own. So your 100 shares may let you speak at the meeting, but the funds with millions of shares will outvote you if you demand the CEO be paid at a level low enough that a good CEO cannot be recruited.
Horse hockey. If what you say is true then companies would be paying minimum wage to everyone right now. Clearly they aren't. When you get into management you get more pay for performance than at the low levels. Then you have to divide "management" from "officer." The later must be paid far more because they take on far more risk. If you want to make what management makes, get a management job! What they make is none of your business and none of government's business. The President is a fink. |

No way to comment accurately on the rest of his Presidency until we have the results of the Georgia Senate run offs. If the Democrats win both it goes one way. If the Republicans win at least one it goes the other way. |

With the Az. or Ak, has had with funding for schools, the teacher dearth , with many jobs now being done from home, America is falling off the cliff as far as competitiveness in all things communication. For America to build infrastructure for manufacturing, I think it is common consensus that the manufacturing floor is going to be robotic. Robotic sensors will operate 5G. Our leaders are adamant about protecting aging patents for campaign contributors, while China pulls further and further ahead with technology we haven't even begun. We've also exported the knowledge and skills of at least two generations of workers. It would be hard to pull that back, especially with all the school closures. The last official act of any government is to loot the treasury. GW |

AZDuffman Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 135 Posts: 18213 | This one just crossed my mind. Assuming the Biden win holds up as well as GOP Senate control it will be the first time in probably 100+ years that a Democrat POTUS first took office without complete control of Congress. Also the first time since 1988 that any party POTUS did not control it all. The President is a fink. |
