Agree, signature matching is a terrible way to verify authenticity of the ballot.
Simply require a copy of your State ID to be included with the mailed in ballot, problem solved.
If you can't prove your identity, you don't get to vote, it's really that simple.

Show ID once, initially when you REGISTER to vote, then they mail you your ballot to your listed address.

If you move, notify them in writing, the ballot will go to your new address.

Simple, easy, fool proof.

I am NOT fine with mailing it in with your ballot every time you vote: think about the opportunity for thievery.

Your proposal (mailing) goes far beyond the examples you listed immediately above, but I suspect you must know that.

Come election time I can envision a lot of tweakers / thieves rifling people's mailboxes to intercept their outgoing ballots WITH COPY OF DRIVERS LICENSE inside the envelope and then using the license for indentity theft / skullduggery.

Also, your proposal requires that most people leave their home to make a copy of their license some where, and there may not be any place convenient to them; some may have copiers at home but most of us do not, me included.

Sorry, your suggestion stinks of, dare I say it, Retrumplicanism.

There has been no proven election fraud of sufficient magnitude to warrant changing election laws; why can't you people simply accept the fact that the orange oaf lost, then move on?

My examples are of common everyday activities that require ID and happen far less frequently than voting.

They mail me a ballot, I fill it out, sign it, send it in without a copy of my ID: never any problems.

It works flawlessly, and has for many years.

Don't fix it if it isn't broken.
