Many times. The regulars (degens) were still there. Every major holiday seemed to result in an uptick of Asian patrons, but it could have been just optics.

Was surprisingly not as dead as you'd think

Could be optics indeed.

Americans are probably less likley to be out, so Asians who (presumably immigrants) don't know or care about the holiday and treat it like any other night, while Americans are more likley to stay home means it appears to have a higher percentage of Asians. Just a hypothesis. Meaning the ratio of Asians as opposed to Whites and Blacks probably appears higher than normal.

I do not call it hypocricy myself, thought the words we use do not matter much for how pathetic it all is. It more a mixture of greed and filling empty lives with "stuff." Best Buy near my mother usually has people lined up from around 10:00. Haven't noticed them as much since the dog died and I do not go with her to the park. Always meant to crawl by and scream "LOSERS!" to those lined up.

Credit where it is due, about 10 years ago the real craziness peaked and since they are more making people act like human beings, or at the least not letting people get runned over in the stampede.

Tomorrow is the first day after I have had to work in years. That's gonna be a little weird feeling, but I am in an office so gonna be a ton of sending emails to people taking the day off. And things move on.

Yeah Black Friday is actually a holiday where I work now (first time I have seen such a thing).

I think it's silly, but I don't mind 4 day weekends.

I think consumerism destroys most of the holiday season. Never would I ever wait in a line for hours for some electronic, regardless of how much I wanted it (I have the ability to wait a few weeks for crazed to settle down). Maybe hypocritical is not the right word, but certainly ironic.

More and more places have just closed since the 90s it seems. Usually it is a matter of anyone important can take off so if you need something you just sit around. It can be easy for those who do work in offices as you are half-speed. Retail of course is hell and other "public" jobs like a casino little difference.

Yeah, I will go with "ironic." To me it is as much about how much of the stuff is cap that will be junk in a few months or years. I now give the kids on my list silver as gifts for this reason.

Couldn't disagree more. Without it,
what would be left of the holidays?
It's all about shopping and eating
out and gift giving and drinking
and making merry. When it was
all about religion, it was dull and
boring as all religions are.
Consumerism makes the holidays
special.

Can confirm.

Nope. When I was kid in the 50's
half the fun of Xmas was getting
the Sears, Wards, and Speigel
Xmas catalogs. All were in full
color and we poured over
them for weeks figuring out
what we wanted. Consumerism
makes the holidays, it's makes
them great.

Great idea. I went to a local gun show here a few weeks back and two of our local gun dealers are also in the "buy, sell, trade" silver and gold business. I couldn't believe once when I showed up at one of their purchase seminars, someone was rolling in a cart load of silver dollars.

One of the guys was selling silver dollars in fair/good condition for 15 each. I bought a few. I should have bought a couple handfuls. I grandparents used to go to Vegas when I was a kid and always brought us back silver dollars as they were still being used in some slot machines. I really like them and have a small collection.

I bought some "Silver eagles", but for the price, I would rather give my grandkids genuine silver dollars.

Why do silver eagles have "One Dollar" printed on them? I know one dealer when asked said, the treasury couldn't even get that right.

Thanksgiving is one of the days I am proudest of my country. How we have it made well enough to celebrate.

Unfortunately, tomorrow is without a doubt the day I am most embarrassed to be an American.

We don't often agree, but this is one of those times.

This is my Tgiving dinner. Mashed cauliflower
and turnips, with rosemary and parsley. Green
bean casserole. Roast turkey slices and all
covered in gravy made from chicken fat, butter,
sour cream, chicken broth. Homemade low
carb bisquits. Everything was very low carb.
My family would touch nothing here, it's
not 'traditional'.

This was a pretty enjoyable Tgiving. I
got to stay home alone, cook and
eat what I wanted, watch a marthon
of the best of Live PD on A&E. Which
was great too, lots of people getting
tazed and getting DUI's.

I really enjoy the tazing, I even clap
my hands at the good ones. It's
like in the 50's, it was always enjoyable
to see a neighbor kid get whipped
by his parents. Enjoyable because
it wasn't you this time.

My mom hit us all the time with
switches from a cherry tree. Always
on the back of our bare legs. But
all parents did a lot of hitting in
the 50's. Mom enjoyed it too much,
though. Not her fault, she and her
sister were put into a Catholic
orphanage in the 30's and the
nuns beat the crap out of everybody
on a regular basis. My mom was
just getting what she got.
