Everybody is ignoring this post
by an actual doctor who lives
near Canada and has watched
CA doctors for decades trying
to escape the healthcare system
there and come to the US. That's
how great 'free' healthcare is,
even the doctors don't like it.

If getting healthcare in the US, and not cost were the problem we might be more interested. Anyone can get whatever healthcare they want in the US as long as they can cover the bill. And no, they won't keep treating you unless your care absolutely stays urgent, if you can't cover the bill.

SOOPOO doesn't have a healthcare problem and neither do Canadian doctors. They just have salary concerns.

urgent care centers. some are legally detached ERs that have equipment and staffing allowing them to charge ER prices for that modest procedure you though was more akin to First Aid.

Salaries in the USA are twice what they are in the UK so for double the money they are willing to say Emergency instead of Casualty.

Recently a stand alone Emergency Room openned in my neighborhood. I have never seen an ER that wasn't attached to a hospital.

You probably mean urgent care,
not ER. We've had those for years.

As you probably already know EB the doctors bail from Canada because they can make so much more in the US. The average GP in Canada is lucky to clear $150K for himself. He may gross $300K but he has to pay for all the office overhead (or his share) out of that.

Specialist in Canada can make much more but still only a fraction of what they can make in the US. If a Canadian doctor wants to maximize his earnings he is trying to get into the US to practice.

No, I mean Emergency Room. It is a very small building but has ambulances arriving and says Emergency Room on the outside of the building. Obviously I see Urgent Cares everywhere. There are probably 10 within two miles of my house.

The one by me is very close to my house, closer than any hospital. I can reasonably assume I will be going there shortly for a heart attack, stroke, or aneurysm.

So that's what we want for the
US, poorly paid doctors so that
the best and brightest no longer
go into medicine and we get doctors
making less than the guy who does
your taxes? Because smart people,
like the ones who go to medical
school, are doing it for the money.
Take that incentive away and we're
all screwed.
