As animation is untroubled by the voice actors getting older, and it doesn't require much of their time, the series could theoretically be made for another ten to twenty years. So where do you think they will end up? Netflix, Hulu, or Univision! Or do you think ithe series is played out? The Simpsons did their first episode on December 17, 1989 and their 530th is planned for May 19, 2013. At this point, they probably won't quit before breaking the record set by Gunsmoke's 635 episodes set on September 1, 1975. However, as Simpson's are only 22 episodes per year, that will take another 5 years. |

It's done for. To be frank, I was surprised when it debuted, and even more surprised when it got resurrected (of course, that's happened one and a half times already, so. who knows). I mean, many of the jokes are based on classic SF, and a lot of the feel of the show is rather old-fashioned futurism (talk about a contradiction in terms!) I mean things like: Fry: maybe people are the secret ingredient! Leela: No. There's already a soda like that: Soylent Cola Fry: What's it like? Leela: It varies from person to person. I really believe Viacom has too strict a censorship stance on content though and this may be the problem. It's not as funny perhaps, because they won't let it be. It's just my opinion based on what I have noticed with movies and shows on the channels. |

It is my understanding that all the most popular cable shows are worried about getting an "identity" since reruns may not sustain a cable channel anymore. More and more reruns are being watched as "on demand" products. The traditional cable show, religion and sports, news, and reality are not enough anymore. seasons 35 The 700 Club -ABC Family 1977 to present 35 Inside the NFL - HBO/Showtime 1977 to present 31 SportsCenter - ESPN September 7, 1979 to present 30 Bobby Jones Gospel - BET January 27, 1980 present 30 Moneyline -CNN June 1, 1980 to November 11, 2009 30 Washington Journal C-SPAN October 7, 1980 to present 29 NASCAR on ESPN 1981 to 2002: 2007 topresent 27 The Real World MTV 1992 to present So there is a mad dash to develop scripted series for each channel. Comedy Central shows like South Park are among the longest running shows. But other than those shows, the ratings are not that high for CC. But then - "two season and christmas special" (or even five seasons and movie). It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die.... it's called Life |

Ayecarumba Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 89 Posts: 1744 | While there appears to be, as Bruce Springsteen sang, "57 Channels and Nothin' On"... There are actually just a handful of large media companies that own most of the major cable offerings: Ranking 2011 USA - Comcast (NBC) Disney Channel - Disney ESPN - Disney TNT - Time Warner History - Disney (42%); Comcast (16%) Fox News - News Corp. TBS - Time Warner A&E - Disney (42%); Comcast (16%) FX - News Corp. ABC Family - Disney Nick At Nite - Viacom SyFy - Comcast Discovery - Discovery Communications Adult Swim - Time Warner HGTV - Scripps Networks Interactive MTV - Viacom AMC - AMC Networks Inc. Food Network - Scripps Networks Interactive Comedy Central - Viacom Bravo - Comcast *************** What of CNN? Did they not make the list while Fox News rates over TBS? Futurama will live on in re-runs. Media is expensive. Syndication is not. |

It is my understanding that Fox News has been the highest rated cable news channel for many years, easily outperforming CNN.
A more recent ranking for 2012 1. USA 2. Disney 3. ESPN 4. History 5. TNT 6. FNC 7. TBS 8. A&E 9. Adult Swim 10. FX 11. Family 12. SyFy 13. Discovery 14. Food Network 15. Lifetime 16. AMC 17. HGTV 18. TLC 19. TruTV 20. Nick At Nite History moved up one position ahead of TNT Adult Swim moved up 5 positions Food Network moved up 4 positions Nick at Nite down 9 positions Comedy Central , Bravo, and MTV off the top 20 list TruTV, TLC, and Lifetime on the top 20 list |
