Religion arguably served a need back in the Old Days, before people had figured out the way things actually work in the world, i.e. before "science."

But now days religion simply impedes progress and gives those who fear death a crutch to hold on to.

Nothing to do with religion. It is about science and biology.

How can marriage be about science or biology? Marriage is a human construct, while reproduction is not.

I doubt that religion ever served a need. The way I see it, it just helps people try to explain things that they don't understand.

Well, there is that.

But long ago it helped as a nexus to draw disparate folks together, to help build a society / civilization, flawed as it may have been.

That Richard Dawkins (or maybe Christopher Hitchens) quote that (paraphrasing) : "Alchemy becomes chemistry where knowledge enters and religion becomes philosophy where knowledge enters."

Religion is basically a way to claim knowledge while having none. (And, to some degree to seize power because leaders can say they are ordained by god or such.)

Never would have guessed

Charlie Sheen is opening up for the first time about having sexual encounters with men. In his upcoming memoir, “The Book of Sheen,” and the Netflix documentary series, “aka Charlie Sheen,” the actor says “I flipped the menu” when discussing his past sexual experiences with other men. He expanded on the topic by telling People: “I’m not going to run from my past, or let it own me.”

In the documentary, Sheen say it’s “liberating” to finally being able to talk publicly about having sex with men. He adds: “It’s fucking liberating… [to] just talk about stuff. It’s like a train didn’t come through the side of the restaurant. A fucking piano didn’t fall out of the sky. No one ran into the room and shot me.”

Supreme Court to decide if states may ban attempts to ‘convert’ gay and transgender youth

Generally, as compared to voluntarily agreeing to treatment with consent all involved in transgender issues, this kind of treatment has often been forced on the individual.

SCOTUS declines to revisit gay marriage legality. Analyst says this "slammed the door shut" on overturning gay marriage.

Never say never, and we must be vigilent. An untimely death or resignation of another justice or two will give the anti-gay and the anti-freedom politicians another chance at this. We must guard against this, using our votes.
