In one of the two "non-runaway" games, James won by a mere $18.

Really?!? I was unaware of that. He's not immortal after all. He will lose eventually, the question is how many more weeks (or months) it will take.

When is the show on, he's supposed
to hit 2 mil today.

He knows a lot of answers. Seems he would get money made faster on "Who wants to be a millionaire?" Plus he gets crowd help, 50/50, and call a friend whereas he doesn't get any help on Jeopardy on any answers. Plus he doesn't have to buzz in, or compete directly with other players.

Seems like a can't miss for a million.

Too late, I've already lost all interest.

This was his 26th game.

The challenger Nate beats James hands down on the first round. He not only wins $3400 on the "daily double" but he is ahead an extra $600 on the other questions for a $4k lead. James stumbles on several questions badly.

In double jeopardy James bets everything on a daily double and seems to get his stride back. But the challenger, Nate, hits his own daily double. The round ends with roughly $5K lead for James and everything goes down to the final question.

They both get it right, but James bets $20K and Nate bets only $10K. James wipes his brow and exhales a sight of relief

His winnings of $52,108 are below his average and leave him $8,865 short of $2 million.

This is only the third game that was not a runaway.

This was his 26th game. Partial spoiler, it is his third time.

He must have won, the news just
said his 27th game is Friday. He'll
screw up soon, the pressure has
to be enormous.

I don't think the challenger, Nate, was chosen at random. He was a very good player. He was ahead on the first round without including his daily double win.

What I've read is that a huge part of the game is controlling your finger on the buzzer. You must wait for lights to go on after Alex speaks before you can hit the buzzer. If you jump the gun, you are locked out for half a second. As a winner, you have to record 5 episodes (to air on Mon- Frid) in one day. So you have to deal with exhaustion as well. Then they record the next week on a single day later that week. So in reality somone probably already knows the results through game #32.

Final Jeopardy was "Jazz Classics" for Thursday, May 23, 2019 (Season 35, Episode 184):

In one account, this song began as directions written out for composer Billy Strayhorn to Duke Ellington’s home in Harlem
