Jet Blue pilots, as of today, have been negotiating for a contract for 1022 days.

I saw American go through this firsthand 20+ years ago.

I continue to think their untimeliness in getting you airborne is based in part on this. But obviously I don't know.

Not that you should include this in your complaint to the company. You shouldn't. But it might possibly give you some personal answers.

Its not all labor versus management.

Some jerk tried to avoid a baggage fee by wearing ten layers of clothing and British Airways turned him away from two flights.

I mean how cheap can you get and how much of a delay can you impose on others who are willing to pay the proper fees and not cause delays that are comical to read about but rather less than comical for the people actually involved.

Some suggestions for Wizard

I might title this piece FLL FOG DIVERSION On 29 DECEMBER 2017 / REQUEST FOR COMPENSATION . There is a real possibility that they will not open a URL to read your full complaint as it may be against company policy because of concern about network security.

Weather is not under JetBlue's control, but FOG DIVERSIONS are very common in Southern Florida in December. A reasonable expectation of a passenger is that JetBlue would have a reasonable set of DIVERSION plans in place.

For what it is worth, my flight leaving Aruba was delayed about an hour and the one leaving Boston about two hours. Granted, the east coast was still recovering from the ice cyclone or whatever it was called that peaked while I was in Aruba. As I recall, my flight on 12/30 to Aruba did leave on time. Still three out of four segments left at least an hour late. That is not a good average.

However, in all fairness, I've taken the Vegas to Long Beach flight several times round trip, and Vegas to New York round trip once, and don't recall any late departures. I truly sang Jet Blue's praises before this Aruba trip.

It might be interesting to know the time between your SCHEDULED takeoff from Las Vegas and your actual landing in FLL. It sounds like it was well over 15 hours.

The scheduled departure was 10:34 PM Pacific time.

The arrival I would put around 2 PM Eastern time, or 11 AM Pacific time.

So 12.5 hours to get from Vegas to Fort Lauderdale.

The reason people book via FLL on that route obviously is total flight time, which is much shorter from FLL then from JFK and BOS, and those two cities are subject to typical NE corridor delays and weather. And when he got on the plane, there was no reason to expect the diversion.

Scheduled departure was 0634 GMT (2234 LAS)
Scheduled arrival in FLL was 1105 GMT (0605 FLL). Scheduled flight time 4:31.

Actual departure was 0737 GMT (2337 LAS), 1:03 late, and takeoff at 2354.
Actual arrive in MCO was at 1256 GMT (0756 FLL). Airtime of 5:19 due to diversion to MCO. ATC put the aircraft on hold at 6:51am ET while on descent (at 13,000 feet). It leveled off to 11,000 feet, did two loops before JAX ATC decided to divert to MCO (at 7:10am ET).

The plane then sat at MCO and left MCO at 1237 local (1737 GMT) and arrived FLL at 1317 (1817 GMT).

Total time from LAS to FLL was actually 10:40 (0737 - 1817) GMT.

The airport was running normal operations until JBU 278 from SFO was cleared to land at 6:31am. It aborted landing at 6:34am (on ATC "JetBlue 278 Go Around") after being cleared to land at 6:30am by FLL tower. Visibility was at 1/2 mile at the time. Planes were taking off normally. There was another plane on approach scheduled to land that didn't a few other planes were diverted as well while other planes were subject to a ground stop.

I'm suspecting that after the go around there was a call to approach and then to to the various centers (Miami, Jacksonville) managing flights to that airport to hold and then divert. Barb would have far better details than I.

Detective work.

Flight details are at flightaware.com. ATC details are at liveatc.com. I pulled the sound archive for the FLL tower that morning. Flightaware shows your flight track.

I tried getting the communications between Jacksonville Center and your plane but there are so many channels that you can't figure out what channel your plane was on.

If your flight has WiFi, you can use it or similar apps to track your progress, if the flight lacks and onboard map. What's more useful, but not as easy, is to track your plane before your flight. That's the best way to find out about delays.
