kenarman Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 14 Posts: 4492 | I seldom read any books by women authors and I read 2 or 3 books a month. Too much of the novel is usually taken up with unnecessary time explaining every detail of the emotions and second doubts that characters have. Said characters of course are usually women. Women will consume media made for men, but men will not consume media made for women. I saw an article that this starts as early as grade school. It is why the chick flicks never make the top money. I have read that even in isolated N Korea, women gravitate to the same kind of "chick flick" entertainment as they do in the rest of the world. The President is a fink. |

Yes! I have been reading all my life and only have one fave woman author, Mary Stewart. She's long gone now, but her books had none of the sturm and drang most women fill their books with. "the novel is usually taken up with unnecessary time explaining every detail of the emotions" That describes most women I've known when they try and explain something in their lives. Just get to the point, already. Even Dr Laura on the radio told women callers to ask their question, not give their life stories. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Are you the same Evenbob who raved about loving What Women Want in the Netflix thread? “A straight man will not go for kids.” - AZDuffman |

If you think that was a chick flick, you don't know what they are. It was a Mel Gibson movie about how to get women, not a movie for, about, and starring 95% women. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

A woman has yet to direct one of the hundred most popular domestic films The cutoff is currently 52 million tickets. The closest was 2013 animated film Frozen which was co-directed by a woman. For live action films, WWW held a record of sorts for 17 years. It was the most successful live action film directed by a woman that was not family oriented like "Look Who's Talking". It is not a chick flick per se, but there is personal growth. Est. tickets 46,115,500 Wonder Woman" (2017) Director: Patty Jenkins 33,089,700 What Women Want (2000) Director: Nancy Meyers 30,599,200 Sleepless in Seattle (1993)Director: Nora Ephron 25,911,800 A League of Their Own (1992) Director: Penny Marshall 34,842,500 Look Who's Talking (1989) Director: Amy Heckerling 27,972,900 Big (1988) Director: Penny Marshall ~ FIRST FILM DIRECTED BY A WOMAN TO BREAK $100 million domestic If any woman breaks into the top 100 it will probably be Patty Jenkins with the Wonder Woman sequel |

That is correct. Nor is either Lara Croft films chick flicks. Just because the woman is in the lead, doesn't make it so. 9 to 5 Bridesmaids Steel Magnolias Mean Girls Devil Wears Prada Legally Blonde Princess Bride Momma Mia All chick flicks, you get the idea. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
