"Less successful was "Hotel Artemis," starring Jodie Foster. The Global Road release, also starring Sterling K. Brown, Dave Bautista and Charlie Day, flopped with $3.2 million in 2,407 theaters. Set in a near-future Los Angeles, "Hotel Artemis" is about a members-only hospital for criminals."

I saw Oceans 8 last night.

I think the level of enjoyment anyone gets will depend on how much they like the cast. I really like most of those actresses, so I enjoyed the movie. If you don’t like them (or hate most women in general *coughcough*), you won’t like it.

If it makes cash, look for "Ocean's 9."

Ghostbusters (2016) had a Production Budget: $144 million and Ocean's 8 is doing similar business. But Oceans 8 was made for only $70 million. But the vastly different production costs differentiate a reasonable hit from a disaster.

In the business climate today you don't need a blockbuster to justify a sequel. If it just makes a profit, you hope that enough people will buy the DVDs and stream the movie that the sequel will also make money.

Tickets sold for opening three day weekend
6,732,800 Ocean's Eleven 12/7/01
6,304,900 Ocean's Twelve 12/10/04
5,251,900 Ocean's Thirteen 6/8/07
4,530,600 Ocean's 8 6/8/18

It made more money opening weekend than the other Oceans movies, yet sold less tickets (as Pacomartin showed above).

That's inflation for ya.

A movie with 10 well known actresses, a famous story, and a $70 million production budget earning $41.5 million at the domestic box office on opening weekend is a profitable movie that will get a sequel, but "crushing it" is a bit of a stretch.

A nearly silent horror movie with a husband and wife team (A Quiet Place) and a $17 million production budget earning $50.2 million at the domestic box office on opening weekend is "crushing it".

A huge stretch. It won't have legs. Too
many reviews like this one:

"What’s supposed to be slick and cool ends up overly reserved and boring, and that goes for the entire film. Gender-swapped reboots can and should work, but not when they’re as underwritten and slapdash as the disappointing Ocean’s 8. 2 stars.”

Never seen a chick flick I liked.
Women doing things they would
never do in real life is boring.
What's the average age of the
women in O 8, it has to be around
46 or so.

Oh boy..
