Wizard Administrator Member since: Oct 23, 2012 Threads: 239 Posts: 6095 | I want to put in a very good word for the show Young Sheldon. When I first heard about it, I feared the worst. The last good television spin-offs that I can recall are Laverne & Shirley and The Jeffersons. However, Young Sheldon is good. And different. For one thing, there is no laugh track. The show is much more serious than the BBT but still has plenty of funny moments. But the seriousness of the show is what I think will carry it. I've seen only two episodes so far. In one, a refugee from Vietnam, who Sheldon befriends, tells his survival story at the dinner table. In the other, his father survives a heart a attack. The show is voiced over by Jim Parsons, in moderation. Young Sheldon is clever in introducing events into young Sheldon's life that explain his adult personality. The voice over reinforces these connections. To conclude, I think the writing is just as sharp as the first few seasons of the BBT. I think the writers needed a blank slate. They ran out of material on the BBT many seasons ago. The question for the poll is what do you think of Young Sheldon? Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

No way. If a show has those kind of ratings initially, it will last at least four to five seasons so they have a good product to sell into syndication. |

After the Sheldon Easter Eggs are done and the ratings plummet, it may hold on because it had such high ratings at first. therefore prolonging its first run past its expiration date. they already did Prof Proton, the rocket accident, and the government inquiring about uranium (maybe he was aiming to sell it to young Putin?). there are several left, including the hamster and the CAT scanner and the paper "Magnets: What do they stick to?" Does anyone else think it's odd 9 year old Sheldon is less childish than grown-up Sheldon? Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

I don't think you understand the power of Chuck Lorre. At this point he is not going to let one of his sitcoms fail. He has the power to move it to the best spot on the schedule. Right now and next year that is next to TBBT. But after that he will find a good home to keep it going a minimum of 4 seasons He did the same thing with "Mom", by getting it better spots on the schedule he could keep it from the inevitable ratings drop of most sitcoms Mom, ratings - Chuck Lorre sitcom
Robin Williams sitcom "The Crazy Ones" on CBS was cancelled after one season 15.52 million "Pilot" September 26, 2013 5.23 million "Finale" April 17, 2014 But Chuck Lorre has the power to hire the best writers. The ratings may drop for "Young Sheldon" but never low enough to cancel before 4 seasons. |

I understand the power of the Dark Side. Is it like that?
I'm sure he'll try. That may or may not help him. But if packaged manure like Two and a Half Men could last more than two episodes, I suppose a half-decent Easter Egg hunt can stretch a bit. Donald Trump is a one-term LOSER |

Wizard Administrator Member since: Oct 23, 2012 Threads: 239 Posts: 6095 | I put the over/under at 6.5 seasons. Yes, they already played some of their tie-in cards but once the audience gets to know the characters they will accept the show on its own merits. The closest comparison I could make is The Wonder Years and that was an outstanding show. Probably my second favorite of all time. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

It's ridiculous statements like this that make me doubt everything you say. Two & 1/2 was one of the funniest and well written shows in TV history, hence it's incredible longevity. Even going on after the star left. I bet I've seen half the ep's more than a dozen times because reruns are on here during dinner. What man doesn't want to be Charlie, or have a free loading relative like his brother, or a dumb sad sack kid like the nephew, or an over bearing mom like their mother. It hit people in so many places. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

zippyboy Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 2 Posts: 665 | I've seen every episode of TBBT, and never once remember the mention of Sheldon's older brother. His cute twin sister was on one episode only I think, but no brother ever. So what's up with the brother who drove to the hospital this last week? And kudos to the casting director who cast Laurie Metcalf's daughter as Young Sheldon's mom. And Sheldon's young twin looks a lot like the older Missy in that one ep. Well done for continuity's sake. |
