I hope so. It is simply ridiculous that it takes about three hours and 15 minutes to play a one hour game.

Well, no. It takes about 3:15 hours to play a 2:40 hour game. 20 minutes of that is halftime (quite longer in the Super Bowl).

Add to that the brain damage the sport causes.

That si a huge concern, which the League is doing its very best to wish away. Minimizing the possibility of brain damage would require deep changes to the game, which would make it very different from what it is today.

I think we've all been spoon fed a love of football by the media because they make so much advertising revenue on the game.

Media makes money off all broadcasts. Sucker has in-game ads, and player uniforms are billboards now.

Looks like what business the NFL lost due to the demonstrations is now a tiny blip
compared to the huge growth potential for the league
Anybody in Vegas knows people get pretty fanatical when money is on the line
Now with the Supreme court decision
That Vegas excitement of what happens in a game will be everywhere as sports gambling grows

Everywhere but Texas.
The mind hungers for that on which it feeds.

You're absolutely right! I would be happy for them if it weren't for the demands for an "integrity fee."

The AGA notes that a legal Nevada sports book realizes only 3.5% to 5% in revenue and that a 1% "integrity fee" on all money wagered legally would amount to 20% to 29% of that total revenue.

I suppose that the end result would be to increase revenue by fiddling with the odds.

You can fiddle with the odds or with the scores. Either will lead to revenue increases though I sure do laugh at the word integrity being used in any of this debate. There is no integrity in the medical diagnosis of football players, no integrity in their treatment, no integrity in their pension system, so why is their suddenly an integrity fee in their sports books?

Horse racing seems to be doing all right
There are problems
I come from Maryland where horse racing is struggling
Live in Tampa where the local track, Tampa Bay Downs is thriving
This industry gets a lot more then 1%. A lot more

From 04/01/17 TO 03/31/18 Nevada SPORTS POOL 193 locations took in $258,597,000 or 5.27% of the amount bet. So the integrity fee would be $49 million or 18.975% of total revenue.

Monthly Percentage Fee (Nonrestricted Gaming License)
(NRS 463.370) based on gross gaming revenue - payable on or before the 15th day of each month covering the preceding calendar month at the following rates.
3.5% of the first $50,000 during the month, plus
4.5% of the next $84,000 plus
6.75% of revenue exceeding $134,000.

So we are looking at more than triple the rate. And the state will want a cut anyway.

New NFL policy requires on-field players, personnel to stand for anthem.

Sad that it takes a policy. I still suspect a few players will keep making asses out of themselves, not caring about any fines.

From what I understand the NFL will not fine players, but each team will be required to fine the offending players. I wonder if there will be a team that chooses $1 as the fine?
