I avoid cilantro whenever possible. It tastes like soap to me, as well. I enjoy Mexican food, but I ask them to avoid cilantro wherever possible. Thai food is inedible, especially hot pots, because of the heaviness of it.

I would love to love Thai. It's everywhere, and it's usually healthy fresh food. But can't take it. I also dislike lemongrass; it only makes the cilantro stronger. While we're on the subject, what's with the sticky, doughy, raw wrap they use to make a spring roll? Meh all around.
Never doubt a small group of concerned citizens can change the world; it's the only thing ever has

apparently there are two different genes involved in the perception of cilantro and it genes that are involved in sensing odors not taste but most of our taste sensations are really odors anyway.

I have no idea what causes an aversion to lemongrass but a quick google reveals you are not alone.
