Apparently that electrons 'orbit' the nucleus of an atom like planets orbiting the sun is no longer viewed as exactly what goes on. They just say that electrons exist in an atom only in discrete energy levels, mechanism unknown

It occurs to me that this is the overlooked original 'spooky' characteristic of quantum mechanics. In the model that electrons orbit, then it should happen that electrons with insufficient energy would crash into the nucleus due to the immense force of opposite charges, with plentiful opportunity. Yet it never happens, it's never given as a reason for atomic decay. It simply seems to be decreed that electrons are only accepted into atomic structure in one way

the old model:

perhaps what you might see today

Seti@home did 2 decades of search for ET. I had that on my computer for a while. (probably when Pentiums were the modern PC). They still have 100 promising signals to further focus on.

Like a much science, discovered things they didn't know, mistakes they made, things they could have done better, tangential to the actual goal.

A French teenager known as TL has hyperthymesia, an extremely rare condition that gives her highly superior autobiographical memory, allowing her to mentally “time travel” by vividly re‑experiencing past events and even imagining future ones with striking realism. A

🧠

• Hyperthymesia = exceptional autobiographical memory.

TL can recall personal events with extraordinary detail—dates, emotions, sensations, and context—far beyond typical human memory. A
• She experiences memories as immersive re‑living.
Her recollections feel like stepping back into the moment, not just remembering facts. This includes sensory detail and emotional nuance.

• Her mind organizes memories in a vivid “white room.”
TL describes a mental space filled with file cabinets and labeled plush toys, each representing categories of her life—family, vacations, school, photos, documents. A

• She can also project herself into the future.
Researchers found she can imagine future personal events with the same vividness as past ones, giving her a sense of “pre‑experiencing” life events. This is part of what scientists call mental time t
• Her case is scientifically significant.

Neurologist Valentina La Corte and her team published the first full evaluation of hyperthymesia that includes both past‑event retrieval and future‑event simulation. TL’s abilities may help researchers understand how memory shapes identity and how the brain organizes autobiographical information. A

• She hid her ability for years.

in the largest randomized controlled trial of its kind, patients equipped with a toothbrush, toothpaste and dental care advice in hospitals were 60 per cent less likely to develop a common form of hospital-acquired pneumonia, says Brett Mitchell at Avondale University in Australia.
