The billion dollar move and the overseas market

I am HIGHLY skeptical of those budgets (I doubt Skyfall and QoS cost the same amount. Skyfall probably cost more).

Movie budgets for huge tentpole releases are only rumors and well educated guesses. Just because it is on the internet, does not mean it is true. Studios very rarely admit what a movie's actual budget was (and if they do, they are most likely lowballing to make them look more successful).

During the Sony leak, I remember reading somewhere that some of the emails showed Spectre's budget was skyrocketing towards $300 million.

Guardian of the Galaxy has been open for 13 days internationally and 3 days in the USA and already grossed almost half a billion dollars. Roughly 2/3 of revenue comes from foreign markets.

Foreign revenue is boosted because theater goers in the USA and Canada are still fairly reluctant to pay the extra money to watch in 3D, while in China 99% of all moviegoers saw the film in 3D. Elsewhere, Germany saw 80% of its sales attributed to 3D, Brazil (76%), Russia (52%), Hong Kong (43%), The Netherlands (90%), Colombia (85%) and Austria (85%). Also, $25 million of the global ticket sales came from IMAX theaters as the film played on 1,088 IMAX screens in 69 markets making it the widest opening in IMAX's history.

Domestic sales for GotheG1 were 11,673,400 tickets for opening weekend and 29,504,200 for subsequent days (or a multiplier of 253%). That multiplying ration is the highest of any Marvel Cinematic Universe film as the movie had very strong "legs".

For GotheG2 opening weekend sales were 16,408,300 tickets. Obviously Disney is hoping for a similar multiplier. But it may mean simply that more patrons knew what to expect, and returned on the opening weekend.

Just look at any manufatured item: its operating buttons have symbols, not words, so it can be sold anywhere. Instruction manuals and warnings are in multiple languages, spare parts and customer service are handled via phone centers in India, so why would movies not be "internationalized". The 'overseas' market brings in too much revenue to be ignored by Hollywood. Hollywood has long catered to low mentalities for movies intended for US audiences and would not hesitate to dumb down movies intended for overseas markets.

As to budgets, Hollywood is famous for having dozens of sets of books and very creative accounting methods, so I have no idea what the truth about budgets is. Producers probably want to boast about the production costs to inflate their egos and get more people to fund them.

Not at all. Just look at the success of these rude vulgar women on the various Real Housewives of X shows. Women tune into those shows to see young, beautiful, rich women being mean and vile. Secretly female viewers WANT to be that way, its just they can not get away with it. It is probably the same with women in other cultures, perhaps even more so.

I've noticed that females from different countries become much more assertive when they arrive in the USA. India, Japan, Philipines etc. are noted for submissive females but in reality they are very manipulative and as assertive as they are allowed to be. In their homeland and perhaps in their home they must abide by cultural norms but in the workforce in teh USA they suddenly are free of that.

Also, Hollywood's legerdemain with the ledgers is legendary (try saying that three times fast!)

Sounds like where I live Fleastiff other than the alligators. I will match the Grizzly Bears in my area against your gators but probably only because I never deal with them I would be more scared of the gators.
