That's what you do in the service business, you serve.

NOPE. Neither one of you will ever see the other again and he has no interest in keeping you happy, his customer is Uber, not you.

I've done uber once and was quite happy
Looking forward to using it again if the need arises

There was no 'tone'. He obviously saw me
on the terminal side and got angrier and
angrier the longer he sat there. If I was
driving cab, I would have got out and
asked. That's what you do in the service
business, you serve. This guy is not a
pro, he's a prima donna who's lowering
himself to give me a ride. So he just
sits there and sits there. What an idiot.

Of course he was upset. You did not show up for the ride where you were supposed to, costing him time and money. Airports can have different pick-up areas for different kinds of services. You have to get to the right one to meet your mode of transportation. You cannot expect him to get out of his car and risk a ticket to ask a random person if they are waiting for him.

USER ERROR.

Airports have gotten strict about parking or standing in front of the terminal. Other places might also restrict uber from the taxi stand for other reasons.

Here in Tampa we have a "cell phone parking lot". No unattended cars allowed to park. That's where I hang out when picking up a friend. Very convenient, bathrooms, large board showing arriving flights, vending machines and just a few min away to pick up arriving passengers. If I was uber looking for airport business, that's where I would hang out. Just a bunch of people parked in a lot waiting for that call to pick up their friend.

Always wondered what a cell phone parking lot was to be used for. Good cell phone receptions. Banks of cell phones available. What?

How about 'cell phone parking lot -- park here and await a cell phone call from the arriving passenger rather than driving round and round'.

Of course I do! He was in a non ticket
area, I got out of my cab countless
times and found the fare. It's money
lost if you don't. It's part of the service
business. I never got mad, I was relieved
to find them, they would pay me.

This idiot was a prima donna, he's doing
me a favor by giving me a ride. You can't
look at it that way or the cab business will
kill you. People are doing you a favor by
calling your company and paying you. But
it's all me me me now, the service industry
is overrun with egotists.

This is the 2010s, he would text or call not go person to person asking.

You absolutely have to get out sometimes,
especially if you think you see the person
and they don't see you. I know damn well
he saw he, all he had to do was wave. But he'd
rather sit there and get madder and madder
and lose the fare. Go and read the Uber driver
complaint pages, a bunch of big babies. Some
of them really resent the people they pick up,
especially if they are from a better class than
them. I never resented any fare, they were
paying me for a service, why on earth would
I resent them.

We had new drivers all the time who couldn't
cut it, they didn't last long. The rest became
pro's. I'll tell you right now that even as a former
cab person, I would not like having strangers
in my private vehicle. It's an invasion of personal
space. In a cab you drive a company car, it gives
you a company attitude. Makes all the difference.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.
